England / My Grandmother

Would value help from someone vis-a-vis checking CRO Birth Index:

I am looking for all the MERRITT'S of female gender born June 1881
anywhere in Sussex. Hopefully there will not be too many of them
because I may have to purchase  their Birth Certificate. I am attempting to
find a person who subsequently changed her registered forenames.

Derbyshire Lookup Requests / Owen Chester Holliday
« on: Monday 29 November 04 22:53 GMT (UK)  »
Born out-of-wedlock in Northamptonshire in 1855, Owen Chester Holliday was apparently left with his grandparents when his mother and her eventual husband, and the children from this marriage, emigrated to New Zealand in about 1870.
Owen married Mary Ann Wheeler in 1876 in Culworth, Northants, and they had two children: William (1878) and James (1880), both born in Leicestershire. In 1881 the were all living in Derbyshire  -  but none of them are in the 1901 census. Perhaps they also eventually emigrated to new Zealand, or Australia. Would welcome
help and guidance in pursuing this.

HOLLIDAY:would welcome contact with anyone whose ancestors were born in Culworth/Syresham, Northants, who moved to Aston/Birmingham about 1870.
I seem to have lots of relatives from these émigrés, but very few of them doing their FT.
Please prove me wrong!

Many thanks for your message and the comments therein. Your suggestion of a change of name is a good one  -  and one I think I will pursue.
How did I not know about this site until yesterday?  It's brilliant!  A must for anyone doing FT research!

Sussex Lookup Requests / Constance Ivy Merritt
« on: Wednesday 24 November 04 19:42 GMT (UK)  »
William Holliday and Constance Ivy Merritt are my paternal grandparents. They got married in Brighton in 1902. On their Marriage Certificate my grandmother's address is shown as West Blatchington  -  and in the 1901 census there is in fact a family of Merritt's living there! But not my grandmother, or living elsewhere in Sussex or anywhere in England in 1901! Her husband's entries in their family bible gives her DOB as 20th June 1881. That may be so, but she is not in the civil records under that date.
Conjecture  -  perhaps she was illegitimate ( a word not used these days) and Merritt was from her mother's subsequent marriage, and which new surname she inherited? If so, under what name was her birth registered? The clue is perhaps in her first two names: Constance Ivy. Has anyone come across this combination of names of someone born or living in Sussex prior to 1901?
