Ireland / McIIvaine famliy from Ayre area

Can anyone help?? I am trying to research the family name of McIIvaine. They are from Ayer Ireland. I have been searching through the "cheesy" businesses here in the US that sell you your family's information and the crest as a framed piece of art.
We are trying to find family information so that I can find our family tartan. Any help would help! thanks 1pne
