The Common Room / Re: Somerset or Cambridgeshire? *Completed, many thanks.
« on: Wednesday 08 April 20 17:57 BST (UK)  »
Hello, MrDudley

I'm afraid I've not seen any original registers for, nor have I got any further with, this branch.
I've got Ephraim in my notes, but I need a little more proof to say he is definitely the father of our Daniel - I've been caught out before with different branches of the same surname giving their children the same first names.........!

Sorry. I hope you have better luck than me!

'Hat.

Hello, Sarah572 - or should that be Sarah-distant-cousin.........?
 ;)
I can't be much help - I've yet to find any further information for either Daniel or Sarah beyond their marriage.
There is a possible Daniel Hudlston, christened 28 August 1674, in Wrestlingworth, Bedfordshire, which isn't a million miles away but I've no way of linking the two, so that remains in the "unproven" box.........
Sorry.

'Hat.

Dorset Lookup Requests / Re: Help finding my Fanny in Dorset, please?
« on: Monday 30 January 17 21:33 GMT (UK)  »
That would make us half cousins, Kronheimer............!
If you don't have it already I have Ellen's birth certificate.
She was born in Market Street, Tavistock, and John is recorded as a Marine Store Dealer.

I haven't been able to find John in any census - I'm guessing he preferred to move around a lot........!

Hi, Kronheimer.

Long time since I looked at this.............!
My Fanny Ansley is the half sister of Ellen - it's info' on their parents (John Ansley, Susan Smith, Anne King) that would be interesting.
I have several theories, but few facts!

Thank you for offering.

Technical Help / Re: What is a tablet useful for?
« on: Saturday 05 March 16 10:50 GMT (UK)  »
I had an Android tablet, and I thought it was almost useless............
 ::)
It was wifi only, so no access to the internet here apart from on the Guided Busway, but trying to do anything on it while being bounced around in a 'bus was a pointless exercise!
The only thing it was good for was sharing digital photo's - the 10" screen was bigger than 5*7 prints, and it was much more convenient to lug around than an album; provided the battery lasted, of course...........
 ::)
I prefer to use the lappie for everything. I prefer the keyboard, the screen size, internet access (a 3g dongle is a lot cheaper than a 3g tablet), the choice of software I can use, and I don't find it a problem carrying it about - it's light, and I can get other stuff in the same bag!
 ;)
Now the (irreplaceable) battery has given up the ghost on the tablet I won't be getting another one, unless it's cheap enough to warrant only using for photo's.........
Just my opinion.

Technical Help / Re: How to close cancel yahoo email address account?
« on: Wednesday 24 February 16 11:23 GMT (UK)  »
I seem to recall, when I closed my Yahoo email account, that somewhere in the small print it said that the account would be automatically suspended if it wasn't used for 90 days..............
 ???
Looking at the latest changes in the law, allowing governmental access to email accounts, I'm wondering whether we can actually delete a redundant account, or whether the messages have to be held for a specific time............?

Unwanted Certificates & Artefacts / Re: Are old insurance documents any use?
« on: Friday 19 February 16 10:55 GMT (UK)  »
Wish I had stuff that had belonged to my grandparents...............!
;)
When my father died my mother threw out all of the old paperwork that would have subsequently been more helpful than I could have imagined at the time.............
 ;)
Got to agree with Dawn - throw out the junk, but keep anything with a relevant address and date on it. Your choice, but it might become very important in your research to be able to place certain people in a certain place, at a certain time, in the future..............!

Technical Help / Re: New battery
« on: Friday 19 February 16 10:46 GMT (UK)  »
This laptop has just one compartment underneath accessed by two small sliding latches - I move the latches in and the battery falls out.
My other (older) laptop has three compartments, all accessed by undoing tiny screw Phillips head screws, the largest one being for the battery.
Once you've found your replacement on-line you'll be able to tell by the shape/size where it will be located on your laptop.
As Dawnsh said, make sure you get the exact replacement - specification details like voltage in/out and amp/hour ratings should be on a label on the old battery.
One last point. Some of the cheapest replacements don't come with attached leads - these may have to be purchased separately.

It's not a thicko question if you've never done it before, but the hardest bit is deciding whether to spend the extra on a factory replacement or the budget option.

Good luck.
