Hello,

I'm glad that someone is "caught up"! I'm lagging way behind and that's why it has taken me so long to reply!

Thank you, Pat and Woody for the info about "Pope's" website. I found it a few months back and I was also very pleased to find many of my Kindreds and Framlingham relatives there! Thank you Mr. Pope! Beautiful site!

Hello Pat and Rick!  :D

Thank you for your kind help!

I had checked Foxearth several years ago and I checked it again just now. It is not there, but I did notice that the newspaper articles said "selections from.....", so they are not complete, so it is possible that the account is just not among the Foxearth selections. However, it would seem that it would be sensational enough that it should be there! In the description, it said that the microfiche was brittle and sometimes unreadable, so that may also be the case.

Rick, it is possible that she was not shot fatally, of course. But she did die in 1829 at the age of 17, just like the story. However, the fact that Eliza and Lucy died a few days apart in the winter, indicates to me that most likely they died of some sort of sickness.

Do either of you know if PR's list or mention the cause of death? Probably not.

Perhaps I will never be able to find out what happened to Eliza. I just wanted to eliminate her and move on to the other 2 girls. Their deaths were ca 1870 and I think the records of their deaths should also tell me the cause of death.

Thanks Again!

Sandy

Hello Clincher and Rick! :D

I'm sorry, but I do not know the name of her fiance. I wish I did!

Thank you, Rick for looking that up for me on the Sudden Death Index. It would seem that it would be there, but, I don't know the years for that index.

As for the story just being a tale, there a lot of details to the story that make it plausible. The story is that the gun was hung above the fireplace and the fiance was reaching up to get the gun down and it went off, accidentally shooting her. There is a drawing of her (not a photo), which makes the date of 1829 seem right, because that was before photography. Her name was Eliza or Elizabeth and she was 17 yrs old, just like the Parish Record.

What I haven't told you is that I am not really sure who the person is who was shot, only the particulars in the above paragraph. There are 2 other young females in the family who died young, so it might be one of them. But Eliza Kindred fit all the particulars better than the other 2, so I thought I would start with her. Another rootschatter, told me that the "Framllingham Weekly News" is on film at the SRO in Ipswich going back to 1819. That is why I was asking for a lookup.....to prove or eliminate her.

I live in the US and unfortunately, I will not be able to visit Suffolk in the near future. :'(

The other 2 females are: Lucy Kindred d. ca 1870 Framlingham, SFK., age 22 yrs. and Elizabeth Suckling d. ca 1870 Essex, age 22 yrs. I can send away for their death records, but I thought Eliza Kindred was a better match, so, I wanted to start with her.

I made another post about Eliza, and I tried to put the link here for you, but a box popped up in regards to "copyright" material. It said I could only put in the link if it was my own, which it was! Anyway.....it deleted my whole reply to you, so I had to re-write the whole thing! I will see if I can give you the post #, if you would like to look at it.

The topic is "Was she really shot in the head?" topic #373739

I hope this all makes sense!!

Best Regards,

Sandy ;)

Hi Pat!

Yes, Frederick was a baby in July 1815. He was born 11 Nov 1814 and his mother was Lucy Wright.

If Lucy Kindred was 7 months old when she died in Jan 1829, she must have been born in June and baptized shortly after in August.

Thank you for passing that information on to me!

Cheers  ;)

Suffolk Lookup Requests / SRO Ipswich Newspaper Lookup - KINDRED
« on: Thursday 30 April 09 07:09 BST (UK)  »
Hello,  :)

I've been told that the SRO in Ipswich has newspapers on film. I am looking for the death of

Eliza Kindred who died 14 Jan 1829 age 17 and her sister, Lucy who died 18 Jan 1829 age 7 months in
Framlingham, Suffolk. Family lore has it that Eliza was accidentally. shot in the head by her fiance. It would seem
that something that unusual must have been in the local papers.

A rootschat friend told me that the "Framlingham Weekly News" is on film at the SRO in Ipswich and the paper goes back to 1819, so there is a good possibility that it will be there. She also said that there were other local newspapers from that era on film.

I would truly appreciate any help I can get. I would really like to solve this family mystery!

Thank You!

Here's another topic about the same family. I have a garment given to me by my mum. I never knew quite what it was, so I put a post on rootschat and had an interesting journey finding out what it really was used for.

Here's the link:

Greensleeves, love your animal art! I have a few drawings of large cats and other animals that I've made......not as good as yours!  ;)

Cheers

Dear Pat & Greensleeves,

Sorry for the delay in answering. I've been having computer problems.

Thank you both so much for your input!

I will put a post on the Suffolk look-ups for Eliza and Lucy, Jan. 1829 in Framlingham Weekly News or whatever Suffolk newspapers that might be available on film at the SRO in Ipswich. I will let you know if and when I find out how Eliza died.

My mother is very much interested in all of this. I mentioned Ipswich and she said that my American father was stationed in Ipswich during WWII when she met him! They met in London in Hyde Park.

Thanks again for your kind help!  :D

Hello Greensleeves!

Interesting! I checked the 1881 Census for Ipswich and the address for the draper's school is Suffolk House, Tavern St. The manager is listed as a Charles Moss.

Fred and Clara married in 1882. I thought that they had a draper's store in Ipswich, but I am not positive about that. I do know that they had a Draper's and Grocer's store in Haverhill by 1891.

It sounds like you have the right place, but by 1893 under new owners or managers. Unless there could be more than one Suffolk House in Ipswich, which doesn't seem possible.

It would seem that draper's schools were a regular "cottage industry" in Ipswich and Suffolk. I noticed on the 1891 Census for Haverhill, that Fred had several "draper's assistants" including his younger brother, Arthur. He also had one "grocer's apprentice".

How very interesting! Thank you for your help!!
