Can anyone help please I am in Oxford for Tuesday only and would like to find my great great grandfathers birth in Oxford parish records in 1832. Will I be able to look that up on Tuesday or will I need a readers ticket for that which I understand takes a while. Vcela

Buckinghamshire / Re: Buckinghamshire place name

I had wondered if Clewer might have at some point been in Bucks (in this case around 1814), but was told that it has always been in Berks.

Cuenca - The Bucks library people also suggested Clewer, which I understand is in Berkshire.
I think that what Carmela says might be right concerning the accent. It is certainly written Glower, Bucks (only the 'o' might be something else). If Clewer could become Glower than probably Berks could become Bucks.

Mostly London but starting to move out into the counties: Norfolk; Leicestershire; Worcestershire; Berkshire/Buckinghamshire.
Also a section back to Holland and then possibly Germany.
Wife's family Estonia, maybe Sweden and Ukraine
Have come across relatives across the globe in Australia, America, Canada and Israel.

It is certainly written Bucks. But if the Glower (it certainly reads GLowER - with only the 'ow' uncertain but not too uncertain) was mistakenly written and if it should have been Clewer (as there seems no other close possibility) then one could easily imagine Berks becoming Bucks.

The Buckinghamshire library people suggested Clewer. When I searched for Clewer, Bucks some other entries are found. In this instance we are talking about 1814. Was Clewer always clearly Berks or is there a possibility that some people would have considered it Bucks?

Looks like it was written wrongly and should have been Clewer, Bucks (now in Berkshire).

Thanks for the link Welsh Jen. I have been through similar town lists but had not seen that one. I did think of Lower Bucks, but comparing the writing it really looks to be GLowER (the only possibly questionable letters being the 'ow').
