Bedfordshire / Re: Lucy Jane Coleman neč Bowler
« on: Tuesday 06 April 21 16:17 BST (UK)  »
When Lucy Jane Coleman died 17th March 1972 her address was 15 Meadowview Road, Kempston, Beds as per her probate calendar record entry. That address as per Beds Electoral Roll available on Ancestry for 1979-1886 is occupied by Ruth Graham Coleman.

From same source, prior to this between 1948-1968 at 76 High Street Kempston is Lucy Jane Coleman, Ruth G Coleman & Joan Coleman.

Continuing backwards at 98 Bedford Road, Kempston, from 1930 thru to 1934 were Walter G Coleman, Lucy J Coleman plus a Louisa Wright Bowler. Walter died March qtr 1935 aged 68 and Louisa died March 1956 aged 76.  From 1935 up to 1948 at same address is Lucy J Coleman & Louisa Wright Bowler, plus Jessie Mabel Coleman & Ruth Graham Coleman.

Before all that from 1922 to 1929 Walter & Lucy are at 1 Endsleigh Road, St. Mary's Bedford.

** birth announcement in local Bedford paper of Aug 1923... "at 1 Endsleigh Place on 22/8/1923 to Mr & Mrs Walter G Coleman, a daughter."  must be Joan M Coleman born Sept qtr 1923 Bedford RD, mother name Bowler.

*** as per Beds Times newspaper of Fri 8th March 1935 there's a write up of the death of a 'Well Known Chemist' Walter Graham Coleman ... it details his family & relations & mourners.... You can get it on FindMyPast or BNA.

Bedfordshire Lookup Requests / Re: Joseph HOAR marriage to Martha ? pre 1794

For a licence one or more people can stand surety for a couple who are marrying in a parish where banns are not read. Usually it is a person of good standing in the village. This licence transcript does not specifically state that Martha is the daughter of John, however it is likely.

I've not found a baptism for Martha, daughter of John Bradwin in Bedfordshire around 1771. I'm not sure who her mother may be. There is a burial at Caddington of John Bradwin of Woodside, gardener on 14 Nov 1832 aged 88. Beds Archives have a copy of his will ref ABP/W 1833/5 it might be good to get them to provide details. There is prior burial at Caddington on 25 Mar 1793 of Elizabeth, wife of John Bradwin.

Bedfordshire Lookup Requests / Re: TRING Family Lookup
« on: Wednesday 17 March 21 13:46 GMT (UK)  »
A quick Google brought up another sighting of Percival Tring this time, again from National Archives, relating to the will of Thomas Tring, the elder, of Leighton Buzzard dated 16 Nov 1759, where he leaves property to his son Thomas Tring, but if he don't want it then they go to son Percival Tring, & following on after to Percival's daughter Rebecca.

So how do you think Percival's parents were John Tring & Sarah Tuley ?

Cheers John

From the Leighton Buzzard PR transcript as produced by Beds Archives...

Burial 10 Apr 1804 "Pearcy" Tring

Beds Archives have a copy of his will in name of Percival Tring, Leighton Buzzard, gardener
Their Ref: PLBP/W1805/21
However his will is available to download from the National Archives & you can get it or free if you sign in & register. Seems he left it all to daughter Mary Tring

Burial 14 Aug 1782 Eve wife of Percy Tring

Parents marriage on 6 Jan 1723 John Tring & Sarah Tuley
However baptism register says there are no entries 1724 - 1727

Baptisms of children to Percival & Eve Tring

10 Dec 1749 Rebecca
13 Sep 1751 Edward Steward
27 Apr 1753 Mary
5 Mar 1755 William
20 Apr 1757 Thomas
8 Jul 1759 John & James

Cannot see a baptism of a Percy/Percival Tring on the Surnames Index CD produced by Beds FHS

Heraldry Crests and Coats of Arms / Re: Cotton of Dadlington, Leicestershire.
« on: Thursday 11 March 21 09:19 GMT (UK)  »
I've just found your topic via Google.....

Samuel Cotton of Dadlington, Leics Esquire had 12 hearths in Podington cum Hinwick as per the 1671 Bedfordshire Hearth Tax returns of 1671.

Beds Archives online catalogue reference OR334 dated 10 July 1671 regarding a Covenant to levy a fine: £2,620. (i) Samuel Cotton of Dadlington, Leicestershire, esquire, (ii) Creswell Levinz of Gray’s Inn, Middlesex, esquire, (iii) Richard Orlebear of Harrold and wife Jane and mentions a capital messuage and manorhouse called Hinwick Hall plus surrounding land

As per the Podington Parish Register Samuel Cotton Esq & wife Eleanor baptised 6 children between 1663 & 1670, the first child was buried there.
