Ireland / Irish Ancestry Help
« on: Monday 22 June 09 18:10 BST (UK)  »
Hi everyone, I've spent many years compiling my own family tree (all English) but have recently had a friend offer to pay me to compile theirs as they simply do not have the time. The problem I have is that they are entirely of Irish ancestry as far as they know (both parents living and born in Ireland) and I have never had reason to do any Irish based research in the past myself.

Can anyone give me any ball-park pointers on Irish genealogy please?

Thanks,

I just looked it up on Google Maps, sadly all the old houses have been knocked down and replaced, but at least I know where they were now, just half a mile from where I used to work myself weirdly enough!

Thanks again for your help.

That was an answer in about 5 minutes!
I'm going to get to like you!

What's your source on this old A-Z? Is it web based or hard copy I can buy somewhere for future reference?

Hi,

can anyone give me a modern day location on St Andrews Street London as it was known in 1901? I have ancestors there on the 1901 census, but can't seem to figure out where it is now, as it looks like the actual street (or street name) have disappeared. It is listed as being in the Parish of St Pauls, Clapham, Wandsworth Borough.

Hope someone can give me a pointer.

Don't worry,

I have good spam blockers, I used to run nightclubs which meant my email address was all over the place on flyers etc, so I'm kinda used to dealing with it. Besides, if I get an email about it, I'm more likey to actually fulfill my promised offer!

Thanks for your concern though.

I'm still looking, but evidence is beginnig to suggest my Crossfields just aren't listed anywhere :-(

However, I've just found this site, excellent stuff!
