Alan.

Thanks for the reply.
I have been in contact with a lady called Joan, who is the Honrary Archivist from Whitechapel. And she gave the info on the grave. Says is a small stone. I am going to talk nicely to my Husband and see if he will drive me up there. Times like these when I wish I had learned to drive years ago :).

All this family searching is driving me mad! But, no pain, no gain, so they say.

Regards Sandra

Long Preston maybe LITTLE PRESTON.  It is a spit away from Swillington and today just has 2 streets. There is also GREAT PRESTON which is a larger village about a mile away from Little Preston.

Taken me a while, but have tracked down the birth place of Austardy. It is actually AUSTONLEY. Transcript error or bad penmanship

sounds encouraging. Just need to track down a birth certificate, as you say. My Dad's paternal side has been a doddle. But, because my Great Grandfather Herbert moved over to Allerton Bywater, near Castleford, with his Son Fred. Tracking down Herbert's family has been more difficult. It seems Herbert was a widower when he moved. Because I have him on a census as a lodger with son Fred in Allerton Bywater.

Thanks for all you help. I will have to do a little more digging to find more about Ellen Battye, before I go any further.

Yeah. Sad to think of her dying at 3 years old. But it happened in those days. On my Dad maternal side, his Mother lost 3 of her siblings before they even made 2 years old. And for something as simple as Diarrheoa

Wow, You are a marvel.
I know Herbert Booth married a Elizabeth Brook and they had my Grandfather Fred on the 23 june 1890 in Bruntcliffe, Morley. I have been given a photocopy of his birth certificate by a cousin.

Just had an e-mail from an archivist at the church where Mary E is buried and she died in 1883. On the same headstone is a Alfred & Emma Booth both died in August 1872. I am guessing they were probably siblings of Chalres. Seem too old to be his children

That all looks good. Not come across a Willie as yet. But he could have been born after Mary E died
