A possible birth for Thomas going by the middle name

1926 BROWN THOMAS SIMPSON Male at CALDERHEAD /LANARK

You could also contact here for information on Adam

http://www.monklands.co.uk/

Useful , thanks, I'm assuming SP has no cert image for that one (I don't think they have any in that period yet)

All info will be passed on ...

Do you know where Adam died?

The first post is everything the lady in question knows about Adam,

I'm hoping that once she can give me some more details about Thomas, I can backwards corroborate,

Unfortunately I'm not in direct contact with her, so any questions need to wait for her email reply.

Even then, once we HAVE found HER Adam, there would still be work to link to the athlete of the time...

The Barrs site has him as a Highland Games champion so you could try here

http://www.shga.co.uk/aboutus.php

As a body, they were not founded until 1947, Will have to check if they keep any sort of pre war records at all... still...tis worth a punt :)

Re : Thomas' BC.

Nope, I was struggling on SP last night with that one, I've asked the lady in question about her Grandma (Thomas' wife) so I can go down the marriage route as well to corroborate, but haven't had a response yet)

Re: Highland Games,

interesting link, I'll see what I can get...thank you :)

This is the closest marriage to Shotts that I can see on SP. It should give his occupation if it's the right one.

1907 BROWN ADAM and SIMPSON MARGARET WATSON LANARK /LANARK

Yup, I pulled that one this morning, it shows Adam as a Coal Miner, which fits with the facts I've been given, though I'm trying to find some more information to back it up..and link him to the lady's family

So, IF this is the Adam in question, how do we tell if he is also the athlete, as this would have been a hobby... local papers maybe?

Thanks, the lady in question is going to do that as well,  we're trying to approach this from both sides, as she doesn't know much about her great grandpa so if we can fill that out it makes corroboration easier..

Lanarkshire / Adam Brown - Shotts - early 20th C

I'm searching on behalf of an acquaintance..

.......
His name was Adam Brown and he was from Shotts in Lanarkshire. Not sure of his birth date but he definitely died before 1954 as that was when my grandparents met. He was married to Margaret and had 9 children, the youngest of whom was my grandpa, Thomas, born in 1926. We *think* he was a miner but are wondering if there are any records to show if he was also an athlete
........

the reason for the search? the original athlete on the Irn Bru label (pre 1922) was one Adam Brown of Shotts, and this lady is trying to find out if her Adam is THAT Adam

thanks in advance

Lanarkshire / Re: John Stewart 1881 - 1934 ? can't find death or 1901 census

Gadget, I agree entirely, unfortunatly the information I have on the family from surviving relations is very sketchy,

I know the family didn't move from the Springburn/St Rollox area, even now my Grandmother is in Milton, nearby.

My grandparents married in 1944, John is shown on the Cert as "Deceased" address is 6 Crichton Street, (My Grandfather and his Brother (John Burns STEWART b 1914) are shown at that address, it is also the address on Helen's Death cert the following year)

John's eldest son, William was born 6 Apr 1907 also in Springburn

I did try searching all Springburn/St Rollox John Stewart deaths between 1920 and 1945 and couldn't come up with anything that matched...

Regards
Caroline
