The Common Room / Re: How can I search Caribbean records?
« on: Saturday 30 September 17 22:47 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I have found the familysearch website to be very good source for Caribbean records, and they have a section for Barbados. Although most seem to be earlier than the dates you are looking for.

Here's the link for Barbados:
https://www.familysearch.org/search/collection/location/1927094?region=Barbados

Do you have any information on your Barbadian ancestors before the 1950's?

Other Countries / Jamaica family search
« on: Sunday 10 September 17 18:30 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I wonder if somebody could help me. I am researching the Jamaican side of my family but I don't seem to be able to get very far. I've only managed to get back my great grandparents but not any further. The only information I have got came a marriage and baptismal records I found on the familysearch website.

My grandfathers Stephen Samuel Foster and Isobel Malvina Dunkley were both born in St Elizabeth, Jamaica in about 1900. They got married in 1925, and according to the marriage record, Stephen Foster's father was called Alfred and Isobel Dunkley's father was called Joseph . The witnesses to the marriage were George Dunkley and Jemima Foster. Between 1925 and 1936 they had three children who's names were Winifred Viola, Alfred Adolphus and Rudolph Samuel.

Any help would be much appreciated as I have been researching this side of my family without any success for quite a long time.

Hi,
Would it be possible for children from a non conformist family to be baptised in a parish church?

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Re: Father's surname

Thanks for the information. It looks like I was barking up the wrong tree.

My ancestors came from the Breconshire areas such as Llangattock and Llangynidr to the more industrialised areas of Beaufort, Ebbw Vale and Tredegar and they are very difficult to find in the records.

all I know for certain is that my great great grandfather William Bevan was married in a parish church in 1864 and buried in a non conformist chapel in 1917.

Thanks for the replies,
Here's some context for the image as well as a bigger portion of the page.
This is an entry from the parish register of Llangattock, Breconshire from 1791.
Llangattock is a very rural area and most of the names are Welsh in origin,
I am trying to find the entry for my Great grandfather x3 who was called William Bevan.
My great grandfather was called Thomas Bevan.
