Have photo of Christopher H Wren from 2nd Battalion DCLI taken in April 1914 in Hong Kong.  It was among photographs from my husbands grandfathers memorabilia. He was Cpl Arthur Withey who served with the 2nd Battalion from 1907 - 1919. If there is a family member who would like the photo we can send it to them.

Julie,

I think your right that the church just showing in my picture is St Annes, I took a look using goole earth.

As for being the gin factory, so far on a search on the computer nothing came up, but it's definately something to keep in mind.

Thanks

Pauline

It is on the birth Certificate of 2 of  Henry's Children as an Engine Driver Factory.

Thanks for the reply, I've been away for the weekend, only back a night and away again for the day tomorrow. I have taken some pictures which I will post on this forum. It's a large building, 3 stories at the front with a court yard in the middle, most of the other buildings, houses have been cleared away and rebuilt.

The main door at one time would have looked quite impressive, and next to this the archway to the courtyard. There was an old set of large scales within the archway, but this was probably much later than the time I'm interested in.

This is the place of birth of my husbands grandfather in 1889, Arthur Withey. When we found the building many years ago, very surprised to find it still standing but derelict, it looked like it had been some sort of factory. Does anyone know what is was?

Arthur's father, William Henry (known as Henry) was down as Engine Driver Factory in 1891 census.
