In the IGI there are extracted records of a birth for George Habbershon 24 Mar 1808 and Christened 24 Apr 1808 in Attercliffe, Yorkshire. His parents were John and Elizabeth. A marriage for them shows she was Elizabeth Alsop married 26 Apr 1807 in Cathedral St Peter, Sheffield.
A Christening for John is 4 June 1775 in Cathedral St Peter, Sheffield with his father as William Habbershon. There is also a brother William Christened 24 Nov 1771 in the same place, he married Maria Almond 19 Nov 1790 same place.

Someone has entered a birth for William (the father) as About 1751 in Sheffield and say's he died a Man of War, Atlantic Ocean. His father was Joseph.

Hope this helps.

Hi Liz,

Could you tell me if any of your Boag family moved to Hull? I am looking for a William Wilkinson who married a Sarah Boag (Boak) in 1798 in Sutton in Holderness.

Hi Lynn C.

Could you please look up the names of Aitchison, Acheson etc; and Rimmington, Rymyngton, Remington etc;
I know some Rimington's were freeman of the city of York at times. I would be very intersted to find out if there are any wills for the above names.
Thank you for the offer.

I have 2 of my families going way back. One goes back to 1300 the other one to 1024 but I have been very lucky in that they have been titled people.

I started by just putting  a name from my family that I already had into Google and eventually came up with a whole family history on line. One lot were in Peerage.com so it gave me a lot of information. Some were Earls, Viscounts, Lords and Knights. Pity the title hasn't arrived at my house.

The other family have had a lot of information written about them, again some Knights and a lot of Church people including Archdeacons. They also owned land and Manor houses and were close to the Royal families.

A lot of this information was passed on to me through another family member as we share the work.

It has been worth the work involved to find that my families have been so important but it makes me wonder where all of the money and the titles have gone. I do know one branch went to America.

I hope you have some luck in finding your family. Don't give up too easily, it took me a long time but was so worth it.

Have you found the marriage for George and Elizabeth on the IGI?

He is George Winders and she is Elizabeth Burnham married 11 June 1812 at St Mary's Hull. It looks like their daughter Jane has married a relation. (Edmund Banham)

The Hull dialect does make Windas sound like Winders and also Burnham and Banham are alike in the dialect.

Hope this can help you.

Sorry I don't have access to the census records but look for Winders again.
