Many thanks for the replies.
I'll explore all suggestions offered.  Hopefully something may turn up.

Armed Forces / Trying to find Military Medical Records from 1947
« on: Monday 06 November 23 20:06 GMT (UK)  »
I'm trying to locate the whereabouts (if they still exist) of hospital records relating to Alfred George Mason of the Royal Army Service Corps. He enlisted in Oct 1945.
In June 1947, Alfred was serving in Austria where he had an accident, resulting in damage to his spine. He underwent extensive medical treatment before being medically discharged in 1950.

I have basic service records, but nothing relating to any medical treatment.  Would anyone know if military medical records for this period would still be in existence and, if so, where they may be held.  I have no idea if the hospital in Austria would have been a Military Hospital or a civilian one.

A long shot, I know, but I thought I'd ask.
Thanks,
Thudders

The 'white' uniforms may actually be khaki uniform that just looks white in the photo. Just a thought.

Steel helmets were standard issue, first issued (I think) around the time of D-Day.  They remained in service until the mid-1980s (and uncomfortable they were too!)

The insignia on the box may well be a Battalion Emblem, although others with better knowledge than me should be able to help you with that.

Hi Lindyloowho.

The cap badge looks very much like that of the Northumberland Fusiliers.

Hi Milliepede,
Thank you for your reply.  I can't rule anyone out yet as there's not much to go on  :-\

Like you, I think Arthur Frank is the front-runner, but until I can get access to the record office and view the two documents, I think I'll just keep digging and see what turns up.

Thank you for taking the time to have a look.
My best,

Hampshire & Isle of Wight / A Kingston - North Waltham Church Memorial
« on: Sunday 10 January 21 17:34 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all,
I'm currently researching the names on the WW1/WW2 memorial at a nearby church in North Waltham.  I have managed to identify all who are commemorated apart from one individual, listed only as A Kingston who, I believe, fell in WW1 (WW2 fallen are listed separately).  Unfortunately, I have no first name, rank or branch of service.

I have checked the 1911 census but can find no obvious link to the village (or nearby Popham), for anyone with the surname of Kingston.  Looking at the available information on the CWGC website doesn't give me any firm starting point either.  Ancestry has given me a few leads, but none have resulted in finding a male, with the initial 'A' with links to the area.

I believe that there may be two documents worth checking at the Hampshire Record Office, but I will have to wait until Covid restrictions are relaxed/lifted.  Whilst I wait for that opportunity, I wonder if anyone has any other ideas/suggestions I could look at, in the meantime, in order to positively identify this individual.

Many thanks, in advance.

Hi iolaus.

My condolences for your recent loss.

What trade / profession was your father.  Could he have been instructing members of the Sultan of Oman's Armed Forces?  The Battle of Mirbat (July 1972) is legendary in SAS history so he may have been associated with that, in some way.

Found this too:

Have you also sent a request to the RAF Museum to see if they have any ideas?
Good luck.
