Cumberland / Re: Border Reivers clan names
« on: Wednesday 25 September 19 05:54 BST (UK)  »
thank you everyone for helping trying to clarify the confusion.

If the Steeles were not border reivers, then I wonder where they came from, some branches moved to Durham, Yorkshire and Lancashire, but they all came from Northern Cumberland.

Is it possible that the Steeles were a Scottish Clan? It seems unlikely, but they must have come from somewhere

thanks

Hi l Know of Steeles  living in  kilbocho  peebleshire Scotland, hope that helps you.

Hi,

Thanks for linking to our new(ish) website William. We kept both up for a while but Google got very confused!

All the records that were on the maxwellancestry.com website are now on www.scottishindexes.com. As of January 2019, we had over 727,617 records indexed and available to search (for free) on our website!

 🙂

We are often asked to locate houses or villages from the census on maps so we have created a solution! Free Peeblesshire census with Google map links. Simply search for either a person or address – view the transcription and click the link to the map! Could not be simpler.

We have also uploaded the rest of our database at the moment but the rest of the Borders may not stay up for long so use it fast while it’s online.

We have only linked Peeblesshire at the moment but hopefully we will continue the project throughout the borders. Also not the links between census years and the added notes column form or own research.

Does anyone know what's going on?

Lanarkshire / Re: Primary Schools 1920's Ruchill Street, Maryhill

Harry, thanks for your reply and the names of schools to look up. The Shakespeare school looks intimidating to me from the Virtual collection, but must have been impressive at the time. I hope I find them on the school registers.

Thank you so much for pointing out my error over Ruchill now Shakespeare Street.  I'm hoping to visit the area next year and could have messed up if you hadn't pointed out the name change.

I guess I need to research if the street numbers are still the same and if it still exists as No. 5.

Best regards
"The Shakespeare school looks intimidating to me"It was believe me, I was there in 1964 to 1965 and hated every horrible moment there.😫
