Sorry Louiseanne your James Glen does is not in my family tree. Glen was a common name in the Dunbartonshire area at that time. My ancestors came from Luss and Bonhill area.

I had a look at Scotlands People website and there were no James Glen born between 1815 and 1822 in Dunbartonshire, but 2 born between 1823 and 1824.

Maybe he is one of them. If I find any connection in my research I will get back to you. Best of luck.

The Janet Barrie that died was age 4 from Partick.

Jessie Barrie married Francis Dickie in 1865 Blythswood. Parents James Barrie and JANET? Brownlie both deceased. Her husband died and she married Thomas Kelly in 1871 Calton. Parents James Barrie and Elizabeth Brownlie both deceased

Thanks everyone for your input I now appreciate the benefits of using rootschat The deaths of John Barrie and Janet Barry on SP are not mine as they were both children.

The James Barrie that died in Govan Poorhouse only daughter was called Elizabeth. He had a son William Galloway Barrie.

If his mother was Elizabeth Brownlie he had sisters Jessie and Elizabeth Barrie. Elizabeth Barrie married an Edward Galloway.

So everything points to Elizabeth Brownlie with the exception of his DC and MC.

I appreciate all the help

Yes I will have to concentrate more on James and Elizabeth unfortunatly they don't show up on the 1861 census. Difficult time at the end of Parish records and just before State Records. Possibly he was orphaned.

The problem is that on his DC and MC his mother is Janet Glass, I cannot find a record of a James Barrie and a Janet Glass but I can find a James Barrie and Elizabeth Brownlie with a son about the correct age. The poor relief record mentions both Janet and Elizabeth. I would prefer it to be Elizabeth but the problem is his DC and MC and I cannot find a BC.

My great grandfather James Barrie born abt 1850 Rottenrow Glasgow died in the Govan Poorhouse on 9th Jan 1901. His application for poor relief gave his parents as James Barrie and Janet Glass. However on the approval page it gave his parents as James Barrie and Elizabeth Brownlie which of them would be correct. His parents are my brickwall

Janet Connell born 1881 in Alexandria. Father William Connell born 1842 married Jane Anderson in Paisley 1865. His father Andrew Connell who married Elizabeth Boyd no futher info at present.

Catherine Morrison who married Robert McAuley in 1889 she may have been born in Creiff in 1868 and her middle name may have been O'Brien.

My great grandmother was Emma Rebakah Logan married to James Glen at Bonhill in 1871 on her mc her mother was Janet McGregor and James Logan who married in 1832. She died in 1901 aged 50 however I cannot find her bc assume it was 1851. James logan was the name of her father on her mc but Walter Logan was named as her father on her dc ? Can anyone shed any light on this and also the births and deaths of James Logan and Janet McGregor.
Thanks
