Totally not asked for in this post, but, I’m from a Colne family, brought up in Colne & I have seen this photo before. I can’t help thinking the chap on the right has such a familiar face..... it’s very frustrating to not know who they are!

Can I lighten the topic just for a minute? If you are easily offended then please read the next post instead of mine.
Someone on an internet group of which I am a member shared a comical scenario she had encountered that morning. A delivery driver had called at her door with a parcel & had said, with a straight face, “I'm sorry, you’re not allowed to, touch my thingy anymore”.
Many people had a good laugh about it & the responses were very funny, it does us good sometimes in dark times to see some humour.
Keep safe everyone x

My gg grandmother went to America without her husband, married a chap there when her husband in England was very much alive!
I doubt very much that there was a divorce...... 😮

There is a marriage showing on free bmd for a George Gibbins June qtr 1897 vol 9d page 341. Details of a marriage for an Ellen Tiplady, same qtr, vol and page. Could it be worth ordering the cert?

I can see “following” up....not sure of the next word. I also think there could be the word “qualification” rather than malification?

The surname definitely looks like Mateer but the forename seems to end in “osh”?

Slightly off topic...
I have a sub with Ancestry but not sure how to locate electoral registers as is mentioned in a previous reply. Can anyone enlighten me please?
Many thanks, Lancs lassie
