Hi Dave

Caroline Marsh is my 2X grandmothers sister  Mary Ann Marsh

Mary Ann Marsh married a Thomas Turner but i could never find the marriage they had 7 children in Derby  which i could not find . In 1871 they were living in Rotherham Yorkshire . As Turner.

After many years of searching they turned out to be Rowbotham's not Turner when they moved to Rotherham they changed the surname to Turner (Still have not found out why yet usless he did something naughty). But I have positive  prove.

Now have the marriage and birth cert for the missing children under Rowbotham

They must have chosen the Turner surname because of the sister Caroline and her husband  who they lived near and looks like they were a close family as my Mary Ann was born at the same address as Caroline was living at on John street Derby in the 1851 and 1881 census

I Have info on the Marsh side Caroline  Etc  but not the Turner's as they are only connected as it turns out by Marriage .

Caroline Marsh was born on the 21-1-1824 and was Bapt on the 15-2-1824 at Bosall Derby they were not church of england

Her parents were Richard Marsh and Eliza Goodman who married at Bonsall

RICHARD MARSH SOJOURNER OF THIS PARISH AND ELIZA GOODMAN SOUJOURNER OF THIS PARISH MARRIED ON THE SECOND DAY OF SEPTEMBER 1823 RICHARD MARSH X HIS MARK AND ELIZA GOODMAN  WITT JAMES MARQUEEN AND ABRAHAM HURST
have more info on these 2

Derbyshire / ROWBOTHAM - Non Conformists
« on: Thursday 21 August 08 17:31 BST (UK)  »
 Hi

Does anyone have links to the Rowbotham families of Derby town and Twyford

My family of Rowbotham's Thomas Rowbotham born Coventry Warwick his father was Joseph Rowbotham born Twyford

Thomas married Mary Ann Marsh on the 27th January 1856 in St Peters Derby they went on to have 5 children Eliza, Caroline ( MY Great grandmother) Mary jane, louisa and harriet in Derby then they had Henrietta in Codnor Park before moving to Rotherham where they changed their name to Turner and had 2 more children in Rotherham and registered them under their new name of Turner. The Children have all been registered but I cannot find any baptisms for them . visited the records office in Matlock and went through all the non conformist registers for Derby town we could find also the records for Twyford for Joseph Rowbotham but to no avail.

Did find some burials in the uncosecrated ground of the Cemetery.

Caroline Rowbotham/Turner was baptised when she was 19 in Rotherham under the name of Turner just before she married .

Has anyone come across this surname on their research please or any suggestions where to look next

Thank You Lorraine

HI PAULINE
 THANK YOU FOR THE REPLY

I HAVE HIS BAPTISM IN CLAYWORTH IN 1797  ALSO HAVE HIM ON THE 41 51 AND 1861 CENSUS IN MISTERTON
HE ALSO WENT UNDER THE NAME OF ROBERT LANE  UNTIL THE 1861 CENSUS WHEN HE REVERTED BACK TO WHITE
HIS PARENTS DID NOT MARRY ( LOOK'S LIKE HIS MOTHER BROUGHT UP HER SISTERS CHILDREN AFTER SHE DIED AND HAD CHILDREN TO HER SISTERS HUSBAND AND THEY COULD NOT MARRY  THE LAW  FOR MARRYING YOUR WIFES SISTER DID NOT CHANGE UNTIL THE EARLY 1900S)
HE HAD HIS FIRST CHILD IN CLAYWORTH THEN MOVED TO MISTERTON AND HAD ANOTHER 13 CHILDREN
HAVE FOUND HIS FIRST WIFES DEATH AND ALSO HIS SECOND WIFE SHE DIED IN 1866 IN MISTERTON BUT NO SIGN OF HIS DEATH ANYWHERE . HE MAY HAVE GONE TO LIVE WITH ONE OF HIS CHILDREN WHO SCATTERED ALL OVER. I  WAS TRYING TO ELIMINATE HIM STILL BEING ALIVE IN THE 1871 CENSUS .

I WILL BUY HIS SECOND WIFES DEATH CERTIFICATE TO SEE IF SHE WAS A WIDOW OR IF HE REGISTERED THE DEATH  TO CUT DOWN THE YTEARS TO SEARCH

THANKS AGAIN FOR THE REPLY

LORRAINE
