I did check in scotlands people but pointed out the errors from ancestry as so many people dont seem to look at the actual scotland census forms.  I knew I had the right people and can see why as on the handwritten form it does look like Blaw and Ellen!    The address was correctly shown in ancestry as 3 Brisbane Street.

1861 Scotland census Helen referred to as Helen Wirs  aged 73  mother! of James Blair instead of grandmother    correct birth place for Helen is Lochgoilhead   on the census

In the Scotland census 1851 Jean is staying with her mother Ellen (Helen) Weir  but  transcribed as Jane Blaw!  James Blair  aged 3 is with his mother and grandmother.

The Henry Tudor Parfitt who married Elizabeth Catherine Blomer  must be the father of Henry Tudor Parfitt  as on 26 Feb 1840 Henry Tudor Parfitt, Mariner, Master of the Lady Charlotte, steam vessel has a deed of separation with Elizabeth Catherine Parfitt, formerly widow of Captain Charles Bloomer in Wales.

Thanks Rosie, I had looked at Henry Tudor Parfitt   but can find no sign of a daughter MJS Parfitt.   In the 1871 census   where Mary Jane is living with father "Hugh" Parfitt  a widower, her birth is Edinboro, Scotland, his birth is Bristol but hard to read.    Housekeeper is Rose Logan  from Liverpool.
In the 1911 census MJS is  correctly married to Robert Wood and her birth is Helensburgh Dumbartonshire.   I will keep hunting.  Useful to have the Henry Tudor Parfitt and Rose Parfitt same gravesite.

Thanks for that  I wasnt quite sure if it was in the right place!  I think Rose is a step mother as there  was a HUGH Parfitt and daughter Mary Jane with a housekeeper Rose Logan when Mary Jane was 15 and various documents said she was born in Scotland but why her father was Hugh in that census then Henry on MJS marriage cert seemed not correct

I am looking for help with a Mary Jane Sinclair Parfitt - supposedly born 1855 in scotland.   On her marriage cert. to Robert Wood in 1875 her father is named as Henry Parfitt a mariner.  In the 1881 census a Rose Parfitt born in Liverpool in 1824 is staying with Mary Jane and Robert and is a widow and looks as if it it says mother on the form but I seem to have hit a brick wall!    The handwriting on the census looks like Purfitt.  I have tried looking at Scotlands people for Mary Janes birth but found nothing.Henry doesnt seem to turn up in any census and I am not sure where he was born.     Philippa

James Shaw Hellier might simply have been a witness - I have quite a lot of information about the family but the name Higgs or Cornes does not appear anywhere so can't help!Could there have been a connection through the Bendy family?
