Wow!  Then after years of searching, I have finally found ( for sure), my g,g grandmother.  On my g,grandfather's marriage certificate, it has that John Linklater is his father and Eliza Velzian (spelt Vellyan) is his mother.  I wonder why Eliza and John didn't marry?  Did he go to Canada?  Are you related to these Velzians? Any more information you have would be great.

Thanks so much for your reply.  Actually I think I photographed your g,g,grandmother's grave last year when I was in Orkney.  Did that Elizabeth Velzian havetwo little boys before she married Robert Eunson?  Or have I got the wrong person?  I look forward to your reply.

I am trying to find the family of William Nic(h)ol.  I think I have found him in the 1841 census, aged 30, living at Braenaheglash and married to Jane,23.  I know they emigrated to NZ on the "Strathmore" and arrived October 1856.  I think Jane's maiden name was Irvine. They are my 3g grandparents.

Hi, I have just joined this site and found the Velzian discussion. My g, grandfather gave his mother as Eliza Velzian and father John Linklater on his marriage certificate.  I have pieced together the Velzian side and have an Ann Velzian daughter of William Velzian and Margaret Cantley.  Ann was born in 1943.  Any connection? My g,g,grandfather was registered as liiegitimate so his parents never married and Eliza went on to marry Robert Eunson in 1862.
