Thank you Alan

I'm sure these people belong in my tree, just a matter of finding the right branch. The first mention of the surname Mckechnie I have is Thomas married to a Mary Middlemist in 1910.

Hi Terie

My father in law thought there was a connection but as of yet I have not been able to piece it all together. I have Isabella b 1776 married to a John Leydon, and unfortunately that is all I have.

Would love more information if you are happy to share

Forfarian _ Thank you lol I have been unable to see the wood for the trees -

I have been reading his death entry as
Andrew Middlemist
Basket Maker

Married to
Christina Boog
Illegitimate

The Illegitimate part I had been wrong in thinking related to Christina  :-[

I was wondering why on the Baptism it read
Isabella Scott in Sunlas had a child born to John Middlemas, and not John being the first parent named.

Sunlas - where or what is this, or could/ should  it read Sunlaws

Thank you Trish,

I am trying to find a marriage between her and John Middlemist (various spellings), they had one son that I know of in 1802  born Sunlas.

No marriage on scotlandspeople.gov.uk but I did find most of the children’s names you mention, however mother noted as Moriah?

ARCHIBALD ELLIOT/MORIAH BURNS

SP records all Jedburgh
ELLIOT   MARGARET F   14/09/1806
ELLIOT   THOMAS   M   26/03/1808
ELLIOT   WILLIAM   M   06/03/1810
ELLIOT   JHN   M            01/12/1811
ELLIOT   MARTHA   F       29/10/1815

But an Anna M Elliott age 50 (could be 60 on the original) appears on the 1841 census in Jedburgh, with William & James & a Thomas age 11.
Her son Thomas is also on the census, I presume nearby, with his wife and daughter Anna..

No Archibald on census so I guess he died prior to Statutory Registration in 1855 and it looks likely that Anna died between 1851 & 1854.

Colin

Hi from checking, I find the children named the first daughters Anna or Anna Maria, which would follow the Scottish naming pattern  ;D
