« on: Friday 09 September 16 23:29 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

Can anyone identify which regiment this gentleman might belong to? It says 'Shahen Alexandria' on a cropped part of the photograph if that's of any help?

regards

Lancashire / Mary Hannah Woodhouse - Lancaster
« on: Saturday 02 November 13 13:55 GMT (UK)  »
Mary Hannah Woodhouse born 1849 in Lancaster to parents Thomas & Jane Woodhouse nee Ray. I have her in 1851 & 1861 census but can't find any trace in later censuses. She is mentioned in her mothers will of 1884 with surname still as Woodhouse, so presumably not married as some siblings are listed with their married surnames.
Was please hoping someone might have more luck in locating her.
Thanks
Jamie

Northumberland Lookup Requests / Elizabeth Havelock Widdrington - a mystery?
« on: Wednesday 09 June 10 16:30 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I am hoping someone can find the parents of my GGG grandmother Elizabeth Havelock Widdrington. I have her in every census from 1851 onwards but can't find her anywhere in 1841, where fingers crossed she is living with her parents.
She married in 1849 at All Saints Church in Newcastle to Charles Wright. On the marriage certificate, where condition is 'spinster',  she gives her fathers name as William Widdrington - occupation Pitman. However, on the birth certificate of her 2nd child Roger (1852), she gives her name as Elizabeth Havelock Wright formerly Gallon. So is she a Gallon or a Widdrington i'm wondering?

Census details
1851 Heaton High Pit  - Elizabeth Wright - age 27 born Newcastle upon Tyne
1861 Old Fold Colliery Gateshead - Elizabeth Wright - age 38 born Northumberland All Saints
1871 Burradon - Elizabeth Wright - age 44 born Northumberland Heaton
1881 Hazlerigg - Elizabeth Write - age 54 born Newcastle Byker
1891 Hazlerigg - Elizabeth Wright - age 67 born Newcastle upon Tyne
1901 Hazlerigg/Camperdown - Elizabeth Wright - age 77 born Heaton Newcastle

Hi,

Please can anybody read this French birthplace? It's from the 1891 census of Epping, Essex for a Josephine Collin.

I have her on the 1901 census but she is not as specific with her birthplace, simply says 'France - French Subject'.

thanks

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / WW2 photo of great uncle
« on: Monday 04 December 06 02:22 GMT (UK)  »
Could anyone be so kind to remove some of the wrinkles in this photograph?

This is my great uncle William Copeland who joined the Blackwatch in 1939, and later the 5/7 Gordon Highlanders. He apparently had quite a torrid time fighting in North Africa and Sicily, shortly after which his parents received a letter stating he was 'missing presumed dead', only for him to turn up on the doorstep some months later.

« on: Tuesday 29 August 06 16:16 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

Has anyone got access to the 1861 census of Pulham Market in Norfolk. The pieces for this area seem to be missing from the Ancestry site.

Susan Miles born 1831 Pulham
Mary Ann Miles born 1851 Pulham (Susans daughter)

Thankyou in anticipation.

Cheshire Lookup Requests / Stockport parish records lookup please
« on: Thursday 23 March 06 16:06 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I'm hoping to find these following people in birth, baptism or mariage parish records for the Stockport area of Cheshire/Lancashire.

Thomas Woodhouse - Birth or Baptism...According to census returns he was born around 1810 in Stockport, Cheshire. Although in the 1851 census, he gave his birthplace as Congleton. Father's name was James.

Thomas Woodhouse - Marriage record from 1828 - 1833 in the Stockport area. Have no idea about wifes name, as she died before 1841 census, and possibly before civil registration. They had a son James in 1833 born in Stockport, and after his wifes death, Thomas remarried in 1839. I do have the 1839 marriage cert, but I am more interested in his first wife as she would be my direct ancestor.

James Woodhouse - Birth or Baptism - Born around 1833 in Stockport. Father's name was Thomas.

I would be if extremely grateful, if anyone has any info regarding the above records.

« on: Sunday 26 February 06 13:06 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
Does anyone know of this place, listed on a Scottish birth certificate from 1863. Obviously I can see the Parish of Bathgate part, but does anyone recognize the placname above it? Looks like Durham__ something??..

Any help appreciated.
