Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Another word on the 1658 will
« on: Sunday 13 February 11 21:41 GMT (UK)  »
I'm stuck on another word at the very beginning of the will.

The will begins "The last Will & Testament" then a bit I can't make out, then " of Mathew Denchfill..."

The word/words I can't decipher are on the top line. The word on the left top line is "Testament" and the word on the very right is "of"

Any ideas on what's in the middle? I don't see a capital letter like that anywhere else in the will.

Thanks!!!

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / help with a word in 1658 english Will
« on: Sunday 13 February 11 15:49 GMT (UK)  »
This is a will written in 1658, and I'm stuck on the word in the red oval. It's the first word in a sentence that begins:

_________ I commend my soule into the hands......

It looks to me that the first letter is a capital "I", followed by the letter "n"

Any thoughts?

thanks!

Buckinghamshire Lookup Requests / Marsh Gibbon lookup - Tompkins
« on: Monday 03 January 11 23:35 GMT (UK)  »
I'm looking for the marriage of Robert Tompkins to a woman named Esther or Hester before 1792. This couple baptized eight children in Marsh Gibbon between 1792 and 1813 but I can't find their marriage.

I'm also looking for Robert's baptism. I suspect he was born in Marsh Gibbon between 1760-1770. Can anyone with access to the parish registers tell me if there is a gap in the records around that time?

Thanks so much!!!

Berkshire Completed Look ups / Marsh Gibbon lookup - Tompkins CANCELLED
« on: Monday 03 January 11 17:42 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking for the marriage of Robert Tompkins to Hester/Ester which took place before 1792. This couple baptized eight children in Marsh Gibbon between 1792 and 1813, but I can't find their marriage.

I am also looking for Robert's birth. There are Tompkins going back many generations in Marsh Gibbon, but the 1750s and 1760s are strangely bare of any Tompkin baptisms. I suspect my Robert was born between 1755 adn 1775. Can anyone with access to the parish registers tell me if there is a gap during that period?

Thanks for the help!!!!

Berkshire Completed Look ups / Burghfield Lookup Turner or Webb COMPLETED
« on: Sunday 05 December 10 17:12 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I have found several IGIs on familysearch which relate to Turner or Webb, for example, a christening of John Webbe or Turner on 24 Dec 1671, son of John Webbe or Turner and Mary. I believe he might be the father of my William Turner, bp in Burghfield on 15 mar 1709 to Johnathon & Mary Turner.

Does anyone with access to the Burghfield parish registers see these entries and is there any more information that might explain the combined names? Or does anyone have any thoughts on why the two names would appear in a parish register?

thanks for the help!  :)

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Help with some names in a 1602 will
« on: Sunday 12 September 10 21:59 BST (UK)  »
Could anyone help me understand the names mentioned in this will written in 1602?  I've underlined the bits I need help with, although the names are repeated several times in the text.

The first bit reads daughter of __________ Tatam (I think)

Below that is:

Item I give unto ______________   _______   _________

This appears to be a first and second name followed by an amount of money.

The last bit reads:

Item I give unto [Ellen?] Abbotts daughter.....

Thanks very much for your help!!!!  :)

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / another photo of my great grandfather
« on: Thursday 02 September 10 21:46 BST (UK)  »
This is something of a shot in the dark, but you did such amazing things with the horse photo! This was Leonard's wedding in Hoggeston, Bucks,1909 and the original is hanging today in his daughter's home, under glass. The picture is so old she's afraid it will fall apart if the frame is opened, so this was taken through the glass. The photo was emailed to me at a lower resolution and I tried to increase it to 500dpi, but I suspect that doesn't really help the situation out. Still, thought it was worth a try :)

Can anything be done to remove the flash glare and improve the quality of the faces?

Thanks so much :)
