Staffordshire / Thomas & Lucy Jenks?
« on: Wednesday 28 July 10 10:48 BST (UK)  »
I'm trying to confirm a Thomas Jenks (1809 - 1889 approx, born and died in Staffordshire) and his wife Lucy (1811 - 1889 approx. and their children should be;
Mary Ann Jenks
William Thomas Jenks
Edward Jenks
Thomas Jenks
Lucy Jenks
Arthur Jenks
John Jenks

(I cannot be sure of all of these details, but from the notes I have they seem accurate)

I believe Thomas Jenks (1809 -1889 approx) Dad was also Thomas Jenks - and his Grandfather was Thomas Jenks but I have no other details. At some point, from what I have been told, I believe this line is Flemish (but I have no proof or further details).

I do have access to ancestry.com and I'm happy to buy documents, etc. but I'm struggling to find any ancestors for this family group .... can anyone offer any leads to Thomas or his wife Lucy please??

Thank you!

Staffordshire completed Look up Requests / Yeates in Stafford, Staffordshire
« on: Sunday 23 May 10 09:45 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I am trying to locate ancestors - who are on the 1911 Census as all being born in Stafford, Staffordshire;

John Yeates - born abt. 1866 - I know he was a shoe maker/shoe operative
His wife - Jessie Yeates - born abt. 1868
Children;
May Rose Yeates - born abt. 1896 (Married Frederick Jenks on 2nd April 1918 in Mansfield, Notts)
Ada Yeates - born abt. 1898
Jessie Yeates - born abt. 1900
Doris Yeates - born abt. 1902

I cannot find any other Census leads or birth details for them.

I have tried Yeats & Yates with no success - and I am thinking maybe they were not born in Staffordshire.
I have tried different variations and cannot find any of them.
If anyone can help that would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!  :)

World War Two / POW's Stalag 8b - Sherwood Foresters
« on: Saturday 10 April 10 10:36 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

Does anyone have any ideas where I can get any more information about my late Grandfather - Pte. Harold Gilbert
His army number is 322138 and a POW number at Stalag 8b was 96358. I don't know if he was in the main camps or worker camps but I do know he escaped several times and we think he was at more than one camp after he was recaptured each time. We know he was at Stalag 8b in 1944 because of the correspondence he sent home and received. We believe he was in the 8th battalion of the Sherwood Foresters.
Is there anywhere I can search for more information or is it just not available? I would love to be able to find out if he was in the main camp or worker camps and if there is any information about other camps he may have been in (it's my understanding he ended up with more than one POW number).
Can anyone tell me where to look? I tried the National Archives but I can't work out how to search it.

Thank you  :)

Other Countries / David Solomon - Nottingham - b.1781 approx
« on: Monday 08 March 10 01:49 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to find information about David Solomon, who shows on the 1841 Census as;
Age 60, b. abt 1781 Foreign Parts, Registration District Nottingham,
Wife - Lydia Solomon
Children- Catherine, Mary Ann, Esther, Amelia & Nathan Solomon.
He also had a son called Saul Solomon.
I am trying to find out more about his heritage.
Information passed down through the generations has always suggested he was Jewish and from Russia or Poland although this has not been confirmed.
We understood he came to Nottingham due to the Lace industry.
Does anybody have any information or suggestions about how to find out more information/where to look/search?
Thank you!!

Derbyshire / Samuel Gilbert & Martha Boar - Derbyshire & Notts
« on: Sunday 07 March 10 08:27 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone help in finding birth record for Samuel Gilbert ?
I have Samuel Gilbert's d.o.b. listed as 1684 - Ashover, Derbyshire
He married Martha Boar on 11th January 1712 in Ashover Derbyshire.
He had three children that I know of Thomas Gilbert (1716-?) Joshua Gilbert (1717-1788), John Gilbert (1717?? -??)
I am trying to find a link to his birth so that I can trace his parents.
I have Samuel's death as 5th Feb 1764 in Burton Joyce, Nottinghamshire.
Thanks  :)

Robert Hyde was born about 1873 in Nottinghamshire.
His wife was Harriett (maiden name unknown) born about 1874.

They had 3 children that I know of;
Eliza Hyde (born approx. 1893)
Lillian Hyde (born approx. 1897 in Alfredton, Derbyshire)

I have been unable to find any parents for Robert or Harriet and any help or suggestions would be appreciated!
Previous generations were told that Robert was an illegitimate child of someone who  bought Lace Mills to Nottingham (I don't know if this will be of any use but maybe as an occupation)? Older generations of my family (since passed) told a story of visiting him in Nottingham and that he had a French surname. I cannot find a maiden name for Robert's wife - Harriett - either.

If anyone can give me any leads or ideas on how I can go about trying to trace this information that would be brilliant  :D

I cannot find any likely reference numbers for birth certificates or marriage certificates that may help.

Thanks!
