Catherine (Katie) Cody was born in 1912 in Inistioge. She was present at her father Edward's death in 1962 in Inistioge. She was a hurling fan and there is a photo of her from about 1951 with some friends at Nowlan Park. This was published in 1989 and she was annotated as "Katie Cody R.I.P". So she died between 1962 and 1989, probably in Inistioge. Can anyone help please finding a record of her death? Thank you.

Thomas Burke married Mary Cody on the 7 January 1913 in Bray. Is there anywhere I can find more information about this?

My Irish ancestors lived just north of Drogheda since at least 1630 according to a gravestone inscription, but there are references to two men of the same surname in the same area as far back as 1519. Although they were a Catholic family, it's not a Gaelic surname so I'm assuming that the family originally came from England or Wales.

I'm assuming that the area in England would have been Cheshire or Lancashire because that's the closest to Drogheda. However, I can find no information on the internet or in books about where English settlers to the Drogheda area originated. Any ideas?

Thomas Derek Bailey was born in Cleveleys, Lancashire in 1923. In the Second World War he served in the RAF Bomber Command and was station in Grimsby. That's all we know about his military career. Can anyone see his military service record?

James Bowden was born about 1821 in Tullyallen, Co Louth, Ireland, and was recorded on 7 Jun 1847 as a deserter at Devonport, England. He was in the Fifth Fusiliers.

On the 25 July 1847, the ship Resistance left Devonport with 600 rank and file of the 1st Battallion of the 5th Fusiliers. They left for Mauritius. It looks like James didn't want to go! Did they make him? The 5th was one of the regiments closest to India and were attached to columns that relieved isolated European posts.

On 8 Sep 1863, James Bowden born 29 Sep 1821 in Tullyallen, Drogheda, aged 42, appeared in the records of the Royal Chelsea Hospital for Pensioners. He had been a Private in the Fifth Foot, 1 Battalion. 1863 was the date "of pension, admission, or examination". So he wasn't executed for desertion back in 1847, and carried on his military career.

Also seen in "UK Royal Navy Seamen": James Bowden born 29 Sep 1821 in Drogheda, Ireland. His service number was 21096. He served between 1845 and 1854.
