Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / Anybody live near Hunslet cemetery?
« on: Wednesday 22 November 06 01:55 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All,

I have discovered that my Edwin Simmons is buried in a Public Grave  :'( :'(
in Hunslet Cemetery. Edwin was killed in a coal mine accident at Rothwell in 1883.

A lovely person at Leeds Council offered to meet me at the gate and escort me to the grave. Unfortunately I'm in Australia.......

If anyone lives nearby I would really appreciate a photo of the grass ( ?).
I realise that this is a big ask as it's probably a huge cemetery. Anytime within the next year or three would be fine. I'd just love to see where Edward is buried.

Public Grave number 3975.

Dorset / Dorset Place Name - Help!
« on: Tuesday 12 September 06 04:38 BST (UK)  »
Hi All, ;D

Has anyone ever heard of Lobsile Dorset? This is the place of birth given by my 3rd great grandfather on the 1861 census. The writing is quite clear.

The place of birth is partly scribbled over on the 1851 but definitely starts with "Lobs...." - but the county is given as Hants.

In 1841 he's in Wiltshire and recorded as "born in the county" ::)

He's gone by 1871............. Got any idea where this place might be?

Lincolnshire Lookup Requests / Holbeach Parish records
« on: Saturday 15 July 06 06:30 BST (UK)  »
Hi All, ;D

if anyone has access to the parish records for Holbeach I would appreciate a lookup for the baptism of a Joseph Pitts born c1764.

Joseph and his wife Maria married at St John the Baptist, Whaplode Drove  and had 10 children, all born in the area. Joseph died in 1837 just before registration.

I have managed to trace all the family, including Maria, but Joseph remains a mystery. I can't see anything on the IGI that matches.

Any help much appreciated.

Gloucestershire Lookup Requests / Longney Burials for GRACELAND
« on: Thursday 04 May 06 11:37 BST (UK)  »
Hi Mr G, ;D

thank you for all your recent help. ;D I'm about to return the favour. ;D

I've had a look at the grave inscriptions you found in Longney Churchyard for George H Meadows and his wife Alice.  I'll have to take you back another generation to explain who they are. The top of your Meadows tree shows John Meadows c1789 - the father of your Jesse Meadows. Here are John's parents and siblings -

Thomas Meadows & Sarah

Christenings at Longney

Joseph Meadows        20th Feb 1780  ***
Mary Meadows             5th Jan 1783
George Meadows,        1st March 1784
Sarah Meadows           25th Sept 1785
William Meadows         17th June 1787
John Meadows             21st June 1789
Samuel Meadows        20th June 1790
Deborah Meadows        7th April 1793
Susanna Meadows      26th July 1795
Daniel Meadows          13th May 1798

It's Joseph we are interested in.......
