Warwickshire / JAMES EDWARD CLUTTERBUCK
« on: Monday 10 July 23 08:46 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I have been trying to confirm details for a friend, of his Grandfather & Great Grandfather with only minor success. I found the 1911 Census for his grandfather, James Edward Clutterbuck who appears to have married a Elizabeth Beatrice Clutterbuck, whose parents were John Clutterbuck & Caroline Small, but could only find where James was born in 1883 in Birmingham, but unable to confirm who his parents were and details of his marriage.
Hoping someone can help or point me in the right direction

Longford / John MURRAY
« on: Sunday 02 April 23 06:02 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to confirm the family line for our John Murray (1781-1857) who came to Sydney, Australia in 1833 on the ship Eliza, with wife Ruth Proctor and children Ruth (7) & George Edward Murray (11).
I found a marriage detail for John's father Patrick Murray, who married Hannah Sinkins, Banns date    1 Nov 1779, Banns Place: Exeter, St Paul, Devon, England. Patrick was born about 1747 in Cashel, near Ballymahon, Longford, Ireland and died 7 Aug 1826 in Exeter, Devon, England, as did Hannah in November 1823.
On 5 Nov 1794 • UK, Royal Hospital Chelsea Pensioners
Patrick was discharged from Hospital. Apothecary in 50th Regiment & others. Served 26 years. Private. Worn out & wounds. (see attachment)
My main concern relates to John's Gr. Grandfather (Patrick Murray) & Gr. GR. Grandfather (George Murray). This Patrick was born about 1725 in Armagh, Killybearn, County Tyrone (Ireland 1766 (Religish Census) and believe he was a Corporal in the 50th & 52nd Regiment. I have read where Patricks parents were George Murray & Amelia Murray, and that indicates that this was Lord George Murray who was born in Huntingtower, Perthshire, Scotland. From what I have been able to find so far, there was no Patrick born to this George Murray.
I have searched the UK Parish register and the General Register Office for Northern Ireland without success, and still to check the UK Muster and war records, but don't believe I will find the parent details between Patrick & George necessary to confirm the family line. I am hoping someone may be able to shed some light on the problem

Argyllshire / David BROWN
« on: Friday 11 March 22 01:21 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I am trying to find the parents of David Brown, who was a convict that was convicted in Glasgow in 1788 of house breaking when he was 16 years old and sentenced to transportation for life with 7 years of service. The ship 'Pitt' with David aboard, sailed from Yarmouth on 17 Jul 1791 and he arrived in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia on 14th February 1792.
I have seen notes where he was possibly born in 1772 at Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland, and that he was a Soldier in the 74th Highland Regiment of Foot formed in Argyllshire under Major Ross. I understand that regiment didn't start until 1787, so would they have conscripted him at such a young age.
I also saw where he lived in 1783 in Glasgow, Scotland, but couldn't confirm that. I have also searched Scottish Peoples for David's birth details without being sure who were his parents.
Is it possible to obtain records from his court case that may shed some light on his history? I also found another note where he lived on 24th April 1788 in Glasgow, Strathclyde, Scotland!.

I have the details of his life in Australia where he married a Eleanor Fleming in 1800 in Parramatta, NSW, and later was successful in obtaining land and farming. They had 12 children
Eleanor arrived in Sydney on 28 Aug 1791 on the ship 'William and Ann' with her parents Joseph and Mary as free immigrants.
Eleanor's father Joseph was a soldier in the New South Wales Corps.

Hoping you can assist with some details about David's parents.

Cornwall / Benjamin BARNES
« on: Sunday 02 January 22 00:39 GMT (UK)  »
Looking for the death details of Benjamin Barnes, son of James Barnes & Prudence Matthews, who was born in April Qtr. 1849 in Penzance, and married Nanny James Trathan in 8 June 1867 in Madron, Cornwall.
Nanny died in March Qtr. 1910 in Penzance. Tried the Census Rolls but he only seems to appear in them up until 1861, everywhere else just indicates he was deceased.
Hope you can help.

Australia / ADELINE GLADYS DYER
« on: Friday 22 October 21 08:47 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I am trying to find details of the correct husband of ADELINE GLADYS DYER, youngest daughter of Albert Ernest Dyer and Ada Farquharson, born in 1912 (25425/1912) in Annondale, NSW. According to the Ancestry.com Public Member Trees, they show that she married a Harold Edward Weaver, however there is no confirming details of the marriage in the BDM's of NSW, VIC or QLD. The only evidence of a marriage by Harold Edward Weaver is to a Olive Annie Wicks in 1944 (NSW 24346/1944), and on the Australian Electoral Rolls, they were found to be living together between 1949 to 1963 at 28 Watkins Street, Golden Grove, NSW. There was another Harold Edward Weaver born in 1891 in NSW, but died in 1892 (NSW-443/1892).
I couldn't find Adeline on the Australian Electoral Rolls, and apart from Adeline's birth details, The only other information found was her death details in the Qld. BDM, which showed she appears to have married a man named UNKNOWN BULL. She is shown as having died on 25 May 1963, somewhere in Queensland (Reg: 1963/B/58544). Parents are correctly shown as Albert Ernest Dyer and Ada Farquharson.
Hoping you can shed some light on the problem.

Australia / Sarah Parsons
« on: Sunday 12 September 21 09:26 BST (UK)  »
I have been trying to find details about SARAH PARSONS a daughter of Harmon Parsons and Helen/Ellen Dodds Wright Keen. She would have been born shortly after 1886 when the last known child Mabel was born.
I believe I saw where she might have married a man named Bedell or Bidell and that she die in the early 1930's in NSW, but I can't find that information anymore.
Harmon died in 1915 and Ellen died in 1918 aged 77 years, and they had 13 other known children between 1867 and 1886.
Hoping someone can assist with finding Sarah.

Australia / PARENTS OF EDWARD MAURICE HARVEY
« on: Monday 04 January 21 14:38 GMT (UK)  »
Hoping someone can assist in solving who the parents were for Edward Maurice Harvey, who according to the NSW BDM (6796/1944), died in 1944 in Sydney, NSW. His father there is shown as RICHARD MAURICE HARVEY and no mother is listed.
According to Edward's marriage Registration (69/1921) on 24 December 1920 to Kathleen Ryan, his father is indicated as EDWARD RICHARD HARVEY. Also the Registration Cert. indicates that when he married, Edward was aged 32 years and born in Brisbane, Queensland. That means he was born around 1888. A search online of Queensland BDM records for Harvey around that time shows no entries for either Edward or his father.
I found his Service Enlistment details for WW1, Service No. 1488, which confirmed he was natural born in Brisbane, and his NOK was shown as Oliver James Page in 477 Bourke Street, Surry Hills, Sydney.
On his application to Enlist in the AIF, he also listed his address as 477 Bourke Street Surry Hills Sydney. Before embarking, he spent training time in Cootamundra, Goulburn and Menangle. he was discharged following return on 1 August 1918.

Hoping someone can help shed some light on the problem finally.

Monaghan / JOHN BRUNKER NIXON or NICKSON
« on: Wednesday 23 September 20 08:42 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to help out an old friend who doesn't know how to find what he wants, which is to find out the parents of John Brunker Nixon/Nickson. I have told him it is most unlikely but you never know. John is supposed to have been born in 1789, but is not sure whether it was in Ireland or Scotland, as he had the name ARGYLE shown on his property in Monaghan.

I have searched the Scottish BDM and found four John Nixon about the same time. He thought John's father may have been Charles but not sure. None had the Brunker middle name, and I'm not sure yet about the connection of the Brunker name to the family.

I have found that John, wife Mary (Swan) who were married in Monaghan on 3 October 1820, and their 5 children had come to Australia in 1834 on the ship "Jessie"  into Sydney and later settled in Wagga Wagga, NSW. On the passenger list their surname was shown as NICKSON, but used the shorter version once they arrived.

He also mentioned the names Coothill and Rockcory but is not sure if they are the areas they were born or lived in Monaghan. He also mentioned that John had worked as a supervisor of convict labour on John McArthur's property in Camden before going to Wagga Wagga, but still trying to confirm that.

I'm hoping you may be able to assist or point us in the right direction.

Australia / Lookup EDNA MARY ALICE NAYLOR
« on: Friday 11 September 20 08:16 BST (UK)  »
i am trying to find out whether Edna Mary Alice Naylor (1907-- ?) married again after she divorced Ernest Rowland Mills in 1931. He was a good footballer who received an offer to play with Huddesfield in England and didn't return. She was left with a 4 year old son at the time.

According to the Electoral Rolls, she returned to live with her father Walter Meaton Naylor (Hairdresser) in Coonamble, NSW until at least 1943. Walter died in 1944 and no further mention of Edna in the area.

I have seen a reference to a John Joseph Tracey marrying an Edna Mary Mills in 1943 in Coonamble, but she is shown as being born in Broken Hill not Coonamble, and died in 1965 at St Leonards, Sydney and Ancestry shows her parents as James William and Annie (NSW 27079/1965).

A bit of a puzzle and also what happened to Edna son, born about 1927.
Hoping someone can shed some light,
Wildcats13
