The Common Room / RootsTech London
« on: Friday 11 October 19 08:38 BST (UK)  »
Good day all,

I have been searching for a board topic on the upcoming event in London.  If there is one, could someone point me in the right direction?

In the meantime, I've started this one.  I have never been to any family history/genealogy events before and now that I'm officially retired (with pension) I can manage it.  It's a 3 day event but I can only cope with one of them and I have chosen the first, Thursday 24th.

If anyone has been to any of the RootsTech seminars before and would like to give a few tips, that would be wonderful.  If you're going and it's your first time too, perhaps you'd like to ask some questions and we can learn together before the event.  Likewise perhaps we could keep an eye out and give a little moral support on the day.

Family History Beginners Board / Carn Card
« on: Saturday 03 August 19 11:55 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
Done search and can't find this subject so starting new topic.  I'm planning a 'field trip' week after next and trying to find out if the 'New CARN card' is up and running, and how can I get one quickly.

I first came across it a few weeks ago during online research but now all I can find is out of date info, the latest being that there was a delay on release from April 2019 untill August 2019 (which it is now). It also said you could get them at your local l.ibrary and told you what ID you'd need etc.  Unfortunately I can't find that web page any more nor any up-to-date news.

If anyone out there knows and could reply on here by Thursday 8th, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks

Derbyshire Lookup Requests / Belper Search for Gregory
« on: Tuesday 13 April 10 08:07 BST (UK)  »
After many years trying to untangle a knot of George Gregory's born similar times and places, thanks to someone knowledge of the LDS site we got most sorted.

My brother and I then took a field trip to Derbyshire and thanks to a very helpful record office obtained photocopies and noted details on thee George Gregory line.  However, after returning home I discovered a near breakthrough that we had not had a chance to follow up on.  Can anyone help?
So far:
George Gregory b. April 1791, Belper. mar Frances Froggatt 18 Nove 1811 (copy of cert) had son George 1817.
George (of 1791) was son of George Gregory b 29 July 1751, Belper, and  Mary Gauld Marr 2 Nov 1780.
I have a note that George (of 1751) was son od Samuel....   and thats it.   I don't know when I can get back and can find nothing on line going back that far.

If anyone can complete that research with a surname, spuse and any dates for Samuel I would be very grateful.

Family History Beginners Board / IGI Batch files... how?
« on: Thursday 08 April 10 21:44 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,
Does anyone know how to do batch searches on familysearch.org.  I have tried but can't get anywhere.  In the past someone sent me a longggg list of possible ancestors using the batch search but I still come up with zilch.

Advice would be great, I hate asking for things to be done for me.

PS:  Mod, not sure if this should be here, tech help or common room.  Would you please move if this is the wrong bouard?  ty.

Armed Forces / Uniform Identification if possible please
« on: Saturday 27 March 10 11:36 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all,  not sure what I'm doing but will try hard.

My grandfather Harry Gresty Gregory, born 1900 in manchester Uk,  was in and out of India (don't know what years)  The stories I have are that he went into the army too young but that most of his career was in the police.  he is down on his sons marriage cert as Police Inspector!

I posted 3 pictures of him in 3 diferent uniforms over I know not what period, on http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=446540.new and was suggested to try this board.

Any help would be truely appreciated.

Thanks
Garth
PS  Moderatator, please forgive me if I'm doing this all wrong.  Will accept advice and chastisement.

Hi, Don't realy know if I'm doing this right.  A couple of family stories I vaguly remember seem to conflict and I have no way of rechecking now.

These are three photos of Hary Gresty Gregory Born 1900.  I'm told he was in british army in India and then told the police, both India and England.  Could anyone tell me what the uniforms are and from what approximate time?

Thank you.

Derbyshire / William Wheatley Gregory
« on: Sunday 28 February 10 07:58 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all,

I have posted a few replies but his is my first 'Topic start?' as this fellow is a mystery to me.

William Wheatley GREGORY.  b. june qtr 1872 in Bleper.  His siblings are; Reginald Warner (11 Sept 1870) and Nellie Amanda (26 Nov 1876).   Parents are William Marsden Gregory and Ann (warner)

I have found a great deal on the others but William Wheatly is hiding from me.  He is on the 1881 census with Reginald at his grandparents, but that and the birth ref are the only things I can find.

Could anyone help me find what where and when happened to him?

Thanks

Garth
