Lancashire / Joseph Kent, Master Mariner
« on: Sunday 20 May 18 18:43 BST (UK)  »
Hi , not sure this is the right place if not some kind person might help point me in the right direction. Kate Kent married John Huddart at Carlisle 1883, on the marriage certificate it says her farther was Joseph Kent, deceased, , master mariner. I have never found Kates birth and can't find her before 1881 although from the other census she is born c 1860 at first, she says born Liverpool in the 1911 census she says born at sea, I have looked on line to see if there's a way of tracing her father but everything I come across seems to need more information than I have.                I did find a visitor Kate Kent with a Butcher family in the 1861 census that fitted her birth but nothing else, also a death for Joseph Henry Kent in 1869 at Nantwich only he was 81 so then found him in the 1861 census birth year 1788, with his wife Anne age 43, this would fit only he was a retired farmer . Any help will be much appreciated , thanking you in advance, Nikitah.

« on: Tuesday 13 March 18 16:57 GMT (UK)  »
Trying to do the Moodie family for a relative, my relative was told many years ago by someone in Australia who had done the family tree, that they where related to Captain  George Moodie , of the Cutty sark ;) I have done an extensive tree for her and can't find a connection, please can anyone help, I have got back with evidence from Scotlandspeople to David Moodie who married Catharine Ritchie at Kinnoull  Perth in 1805 this family do eventually end up in Dysart through their grandson David Moodie who was born 1851 at Dunnichen Forfar Angus,  their descendants now live in Fife David's parents where William Ritchie Moodie and Margaret Shepherd, who married at Perth 1840, William being the son of David Richie and Catharine Ritchie, any help will be most appreciated many thanks, Nikitah.

Yorkshire (East Riding & York) / John William Pickering
« on: Wednesday 10 January 18 21:08 GMT (UK)  »
Does anyone have John William Pickering born Fridaythorpe 22 October 1852. I thought Robert Pickering And Sarah Harland had just 2 children Annie Elizabeth 1854 Fridaythorpe, and Mary Jane 1860 Fridaythorpe, my line,  until I found a grandson, john William Pickering, October 1852 Fridaythorpe, living with Sarah's parents Robert Harland and Elizabeth Petch age 8, in Chapmangate Pocklington,   looking on Familysearch it gives his parents as Robert Pickering and Sarah. there are several possibilities in later census for him but nothing definite. so just wondering if anyone knows what happened to him .thank you , nikitah

Peeblesshire / Youngs,Sanderson, Newlands and West Linton
« on: Tuesday 24 January 17 18:21 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, more brick walls, my 5 times great grandmother Barbara/ Barbary Young married Alexander Stewart, no registration found, the only clues I have are through their children ,Barbara Barbary's death certificate and the census I can find no birth for her but on the  census she says born Newlands, in 1851 she is 62 and 1841 50 at her death in 1867 she is 80 she died at Lasswade her son Alexander  was present, widow of Alexander molecatcher, daughter of James Young, Factor, and Janet Sanderson, I have found some children for this couple, William  December 1769 West Linton and possibly baptised at Dolphinton January1770,James 1772 West Linton, and another William 1774, West Linton, from S P, so No birth for Barbara and no marriage for either Barbara and Alexander or Barbara's parents James Young  and Janet  Sanderson and possibly more births missing. Barbara Young and Alexander Stewart had  3 children at Newlands, Alexander 1813, Janet 1811 and Jean 1816, their other children born Penicuik Barbara 1818,James 1820 and David Muir 1823, so it looks like they followed the naming pattern. Can anyone help me get any further back on this line? any help will be very welcome and much appreciated. many thanks Nikitah.

Stirlingshire / Brown/ Anderson
« on: Monday 24 March 14 09:53 GMT (UK)  »
Hi I'm not sure if this is the right place as this query covers Slamannan, Airdrie  Lanark and New Monkland, but I'm sure someone will put me right, .  My line is Christina Brown, June 15 1863 Airdrie her parents Robert Brown and Margaret Anderson, Robert and Margaret married 1 Nov 1851 at Airdrie. Margaret's parents are Thomas Anderson and Agnes Shaw , I can find Margaret on 1841 and 1851 census with Thomas a widow but I can't find a suitable entry for Robert, on Christina's marriage line in 1886 he is said to be " shoemaster (Master)", yet the only suitable census I can find for Robert and Margaret Brown is 1871 when this Robert is said to be "engine keeper" 1 Meadowfield cottages New Monkland, I thought Robert maybe one born Slamannan August 10 1825 his parents Robert Brown and Janet Danskin, this one fits as later generations have Danskin as a middle name, any help will be much appreciated , Nikitah

World War One / gassed
« on: Monday 30 December 13 13:00 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All I know about my grandfather is he was gassed during the great war, I've been unable to find anything else, no regiment, no nothing, his medals have disappeared, his name was a common one, Frank Hodgson and he came from York. Now I have found a report from the York Herald of a L/corporol Frank Hodgson wounded 4/ 11 /1916 of the Northumberland Fusiliers, 17/27. nothing else. My question is when these poor soldiers were gassed, where would they be hospitalised ,  how long would they stay in hospital?, we have a photo of my Aunt, his eldest daughter on the back she says looking forward to having him home, dated 16/ 8 /18. Presumably  the report in the Herald would be of a York resident but is nearly 2 years too big a gap?,  yes I know I'm clutching at straws but I don't know were else to go. Any help will be much appreciated
