Cornwall / littlechild family
« on: Sunday 23 March 14 14:27 GMT (UK)  »
Hello, was wondering if anyone is looking for this family, they seem to be in the falmouth/probus areas mostly looking for Timothy littlechild and spouse Ann gill ,  they married  July 1740 and any connections to Stephen Harte who marries their daughter Sarah littlechild February 1772 in Probus, bit of a long shot I know, but know doubt there are R/c's out there with a handle on this.

The Lighter Side / a understanding wife
« on: Saturday 09 March 13 17:02 GMT (UK)  »
Whilst at the library today trying to knock down the od brickwall, I came across this entry on the 1881 census that concerned a relation of mine, he and his wife were "boarders" with a widow and her teenage daughter, well my relation took a bit of a fancy to his landlady, and she had a child by him,  his wife stayed and they brought the child up as her own, and just to rub salt in the wounds he did it again, and still his wife stayed, makes you wonder what Jerrmy kyle would have made of that :o :o :o :o

Family History Beginners Board / which george hornsby is right?
« on: Monday 31 October 11 16:20 GMT (UK)  »
trying to track down my g-grandfather George Hornsby, but have come across a mystery, I have one that is born in 1869 in Shirley, and one born in stepney in 1869, both in the army at the same time, both have the same christian name of father, both living in the same area on the 1901 and 1911 census and both working on the railway in the docks, so which one is which?? the one from Shirley marries a Mary Jane Wilson in around 1890, (who is from stepney), but when I look for proof of birth for him I hit a brickwall, any help would be great, as this one is getting very frustrating

While digging through the Dorset opc pages looking for my Wilson connection I came upon this entry in the Abbotsbury Baptism page

20 June 1833, William, son of Job & Lucy Wilson from punchknowle fathers trade is listed as  "Preventive Man" and I wondered if this was an early form of customs officer as there is a listing for a Preventive office on another entry, would this be a correct assumption?

World War One / regimental number and service records
« on: Monday 30 August 10 18:03 BST (UK)  »
hello to you all,
I was hoping one of you really clever people on here can help.
I am trying to find details of my grandfather's war record, but all I have to go on is his name and what regiment he was in,
his name was Albert Edward Hart born in Southampton in 1892 and in 1914 he was in the 2/6 Essex regiment at the rank of private, these were the details on my fathers birth certificate, at the time of service he was living in Southampton, is this enough to go on??
