Staffordshire / Visiting Wolverhampton Archives
« on: Wednesday 30 March 11 14:48 BST (UK)  »
Hi All,

I am planning to take my mum to Wolverhampton Archives when I visit her in a couple of weeks time. What advice would people have given this would be the first visit to the archives and also what records are best to look at (that cannot be found on-line)?

Mark

Lancashire / William Orme and Mary Bradburn - Liverpool
« on: Monday 14 March 11 13:18 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

Does anyone have William Orme and Mary Bradburn who married 16 Jan 1798 in Liverpool in their tree?

I have a William and Mary Orme as two of my ancestors who were both born outside Staffordshire in the 1841 census and sadly had died before the 1851 census. I have found baptism records for several of their children in Wolverhampton starting in 1799 but no mention of any marriage.

I found on family search the marriage in Liverpool which matches the names and a reasonable date so wanted to see if anyone else had this couple in their tree so I could rule it out.

Mark

Europe / Help needed with German Ancestors
« on: Tuesday 01 March 11 09:27 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I have some relatives who came from Birstein in Hesse, Germany. It has been suggested that I should contact the Hessen Archiv to find out where the parish records are kept for Birstein.

Two queries:
1. Has anyone had any luck with contacting them and did you use post or email (and what was the address)?
2. Can someone help with translating into German the following message.

Dear Sir/Madam,

I would like to know where the parish registers are kept for Birstein as some of my ancestors came from there.

Regards,

Mark

« on: Monday 16 August 10 12:39 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I found on findmypast that they have an index of wills for Northamptonshire up to 1857. Has anyone used the details to obtain copies of the wills and if so how much does it cost?

Essex / Latchingdon Burials - BOWLES
« on: Monday 19 July 10 17:21 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I discovered at the weekend that one of my ancestors, William Bowles, was buried in Latchingdon in 1855. Without going there does anyone know if there are any way of finding out if there is a headstone?

Australia / MITCHELL - Australia to/from England in 1964
« on: Wednesday 14 July 10 12:44 BST (UK)  »
Hi All,

I was told a family story that around the time my grandfather died in 1964, some relatives who had come over from Australia turned up but sadly were sent packing before they met any of the family. I would like to try and find who these were, are there any passenger records online for trips to/from Australia around 1964? (The major sites seem to stop at 1960)

Regards,

Mark

Australia / Gertrude Augusta RAVENING - Parkes NSW
« on: Thursday 10 June 10 09:53 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

One of my relatives Gertrude Augusta Ravening (nee Mitchell) moved to Australia some time after the 1911 census. From what I have found there are records of the family being on the electoral rolls in Parkes in NSW in the 1930s I think, but I can't find out any further details. Any information or help would be greatly appreciated.
