Dublin / Same couple marry 1st Reg Off and then Church
« on: Thursday 16 August 18 23:38 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
Can anyone explain why a couple first married in the Dublin Reg Off (with no apparent legal or religious reason) and then two years later marry in St Andrew's? They were both widows so why the Reg Office? And then the Church?

James Flood and Ellen Daniel Killeen

Tyrone / Bridget McSorley b:1888 Castlederg
« on: Thursday 12 April 18 16:33 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find Bridget McSorley born 15 Aug 1888 Castlederg; daughter of Patrick McSorley and Susan Thompson.

All I know of her is what I have found on the 1901/1911 Census. As of yet, no marriage, if any, nor a death.

In 1911 she is living with her sister Catherine (my gt grandmother) Lecky Rd Derry. Catherine died in 1962 and unfortunately there is no living family who can tell me if they remember Bridget or heard any stories about her. I don't think Bridget was living with Catherine at the time of Catherine's death but I don't know if that means she was already deceased herself or living elsewhere, most likely Castlederg.

1901: aged 12; Catholic; born Tyrone; liv 4 Garnett Tce Castlederg; Included in census is her father Patrick, her mother Susan and her sister Susan

1911: aged 21 (23); Catholic; born Derry; liv 40 Lecky Rd; a servant.Included in census is her sister Catherine, Catherine’s husband John McAnee, her nephews James, Patrick, John, Joseph, Hugh and William and o re than niece Mary
Although Census shows Bridget and Catherine's place of birth as Derry, it was actually Castlederg

Any help will be greatly appreciated

Donegal / Graveyards/Cemeteries Outside Derry
« on: Friday 26 January 18 23:34 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to locate a graveyard/cemetery that would be, I'm assuming, not too far outside Derry.
It could well be, a now, disused graveyard. Possibly somewhere in or near Carrigans or in that general direction.

Failing that, from an old letter, it is written "buried just outside Pennyburn" Pennyburn being in the Templemore Civil Parish, Barony of NW Liberties townland of Derry

Dublin / Della Weir bc1898 Dublin. Who is she?
« on: Tuesday 29 December 15 13:15 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone help me find out anything about a DELLA WEIR who appears in the 1901 Ireland census: aged 3 (bc1898 Dublin) and recorded as a niece to the head of house

The head, William Ormsby Weir is my 2xgt grandfather. Looking at William's brothers:
Richard: died 1873 - so he's not the father
Robert: died 1890 - so he's not the father
Arthur: born 1842 died 1932, a bachelor but would have been abt 56 at birth of Della
Launcelot: born 1838 (it is believed he died in infancy) but would have been abt 60 at birth of Della

If any of them had a relationship with Della it is more likely they were the grandfathers not father.

But with two brothers deceased before her birth, that leaves only two to consider, Arthur and Launcelot. But Arthur died a bachelor (nothing in the family history suggest a child to Arthur) and it is believed Launcelot died in infancy.

So unless I am missing some vital information, Della is not actually related to this particular Weir branch. I can't find any information on her birth. I'm not even sure of the name, Della. Is this her actual name, an abbreviated name or pet name?

By 1911 she would have been about 13 but where is she? I can't find her anywhere.
There is an Adeline Weir recorded as a visitor; aged 14; 36 Nelson St. And inlaws of William (who were living with him in 1901 - Ruxton) are living in 10 Nelson St in 1911. If this is Della, I still no absolutely nothing about her

Can anyone help me find this Della and how she fits into the family? If at all

« on: Friday 06 November 15 23:11 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I've asked before, I know, but I'm hoping someone new out there can help?

His actual name is not known - John Flood; John Christopher Flood, or Christopher John Flood born in Dublin c1900-c1914.
His father was John Flood (1886-1932), his mother Bridget Reilly (c1893-1955)
His brothers/sisters: Patrick (1911-1992, Esther (Essie) (1915-1978), Christina (1917-1932), James (1922-2002) & William (1929-1933)
There are varying stories as to where Christy went. England, America and Australia. All that is really known is that he when he left Ireland he was never heard of again.
Can anyone help?

Donegal / McLaughlin Porthaw Buncrana and Where is The Rock Donegal
« on: Sunday 07 June 15 17:48 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I am trying to find out anything of Hannah McLaughlin who died Derry 31 Aug 1867 aged about 35. The proprietor of the grave is a James McLaughiin of Porthaw Buncrana.

I have no idea of their relationship and, although Hannah was buried in a Carton family grave I can't find her connection with them.

Can anyone help?

Also, a number of Carton family members have places of birth or living The Rock. Can anyone help me locate this area? On all family records that I have seen so far not one specifies if The Rock is in Derry or Donegal somewhere.
