Roxburghshire / Pringles of Hawick
« on: Friday 16 August 19 11:17 BST (UK)  »
Hiya

Am trying to think out of the box here

Is there such a place to see the names of the workforce who used to work at Pringles in Hawick in the early 1900's onwards?

A lot of my Ancestors where woollen framework knitters, I know a great aunt did as my mum got lots of cashmere tops from her

Thanks for looking

The Common Room / Where do I look for who tended war graves?
« on: Sunday 30 June 19 10:25 BST (UK)  »
Hiya

Have got a great uncle in my mums tree who fought in WW2, When the war ended he never returned to UK, instead he married a French girl and stayed to tend the war graves, last known address was in Lilles, so am assuming he tended war graves there. Is there anywhere I can find this out?

His name was Sidney Wilson b1923 in Lincoln and he married a Jeanne in Lille France

Any pointers gratefully accepted

World War One / if you have a 6th Battalion Black Watch POW in your tree, this might help
« on: Wednesday 27 February 19 19:31 GMT (UK)  »
Hiya

Just thought I would share with you all some info I have received from the ministry for my Grandfather who was a POW in WW1, he was serving in the 6th Battalion of the Black Watch and was captured on 21st March 1918 in "Beugany" and held in Frankfurt until the end of the war. We all wonder where about the POWs where so hope this helps you. Am not sure of the Beugany spelling or where about in Frankfurt, but at least its a starting point.

Armed Forces / What ratings was ancestor in the Royal Navy?
« on: Monday 02 April 18 19:06 BST (UK)  »
Hi

Looking at Royal Navy Records for my Hubbys Great Grandad George White b1873, he was invalided out of Pembroke 2 on 18th Sept 1914

His rating was Sto.P.O, What does this stand for?

Is there anywhere I can also look to see why he was invalided out too? he had only just rejoined at Pembroke 2 on 2nd Aug 1914 after what appears to be a 14 year gap, was he recalled for ww1?

Cheers

World War Two / Were the Royal Engineers involved in the Berlin Airlift?
« on: Wednesday 28 March 18 21:28 BST (UK)  »
Hi

Does anybody know what regiments were involved in the Berlin Airlift Please?

My family have a photo of my uncle at the control centre allegedly talking to pilots during this time.

Just wanting to try and prove if it was possibly true or not. We all know how things get warped in the telling  :D

My Uncle was in the Royal Engineers

Lincolnshire / Newport Cemetery
« on: Wednesday 03 August 16 16:12 BST (UK)  »
Hi

Does anybody know where I can get a more detailed plan of burial plots for Newport Cemetery in Lincoln. Have got a larger scale map showing the letters at the beginning,(from deceased online site) but not the exact area for the plot.(its a big cemetery)
Am going to Lincoln on Friday for a funeral and thought I would take a rare opportunity to pay my respects to some past relations i.e. my nan and grandad and several aunts and uncles. Will be taking my mum along who uses a walker to get around, so would like a more detailed map to locate the graves easier

Plot numbers Im hoping to find are K/1, N/272, R/371, R/370, X/1771, V/148, W/279

Heres hoping such a map exists
