Armed Forces / Life in the military question
« on: Thursday 13 December 18 17:20 GMT (UK)  »
I’m so sorry if this is a strange question but I know absolutely nothing about military life.
Trying to piece together some family history so please excuse my cryptic question...
This would be post WW2. What would be the most likely scenario for a military person of very high rank, stationed in their native country, to meet and have a relationship with a (younger) person totally unrelated with the military?

The Common Room / Incorrect trees
« on: Sunday 13 November 11 13:28 GMT (UK)  »
I have, several times, found trees on the internet (ancestry public members trees as well as other other sites) where the info is incorrect. I have even seen my own grandparents "fitted" into trees they have no connection to!

My question is, what is the correct ettiquette in these situations?

Do I attempt to gently and respectfully tackle the "owner"?

If I don`t the problem may get spread and repeat itself - if I do, is it going to be more trouble than it`s worth?

What does everyone else do? I would love to hear your views as its starting to wind me up now!!! ::)

Leicestershire Lookup Requests / Help with birth/bapt/marr Sileby,Loughborough Mntsrrl
« on: Wednesday 16 January 08 10:27 GMT (UK)  »
Please can you help me untangle a family. I have a theory that there was a marriage between first cousins, but first I need to confirm that I have the correct people.

The three bits of info I need are:

1. Sarah WARD bpt 9 oct 1806 Loughborough & Mountsorrel presbyterian.
(need to confirm her parents - I am hoping they are Thomas WARD and Sarah GOODRICH of Sileby or nearby)

2. William James WARD b. 1808 Sileby poss baptised at Loughborough and Mountsorrel Presbyterian (I am hoping he will have the same parents as the Sarah above).

3. Thomas WARD and Sarah GOODRICH marriage 11 dec 1804 Rothley?

If my theory is correct Thomas Ward and Sarah Goodrich both had siblings who married each other and had a son who married Sarah Ward - his cousin (child of the above Thomas and Sarah).

The info I have supplied is from the igi via the internet but hopefully more info is available from other records.
I am also basing my theory on info from two wills and the census.

Thomas Ward may have been married before so its possible Sarah Goodrich may not be the mother of one or both of these children.
The areas the Ward and Goodrich families were living in at the time are: Sileby, Wigston, Thornton...

It would be fantastic if someone could help me with this as this family have been confusing me for years and this is the best (only) explanation I have been able to come up with.
