Lincolnshire / Lincolnshire Archives
« on: Saturday 02 July 11 00:50 BST (UK)  »
This is absolutely ridiculous as I'm a student and spend a lot of time in the library but...

Can anyone explain what I need to do before heading to the archives? I've been putting it off as after reading their website I'm rather confused. So according to this http://zipapps.lincolnshire.gov.uk/eArchives/default.aspx I just have to email?

And do I just need to take the reference number for the record? When it says 'no copies of this document are available' can you still view it? If so could you photograph it?

I've put this in here as I was also wondering the best time to go? Morning/afternoon etc?

Thanks for any help :) For some reason I find this really confusing.

Lincolnshire / Suthworth
« on: Saturday 30 April 11 20:55 BST (UK)  »
Has anyone ever heard of this place? I just did a quick google search and found nothing. Could this be a old spelling/previous name of 'Susworth'? (although the photo isn't that old so I guess this is unlikely). I have a school photograph with 'Suthworth School' on the board (held by the child at the front) but it would make a lot more sense for it to be Susworth. Unless it's not in Lincs at all...

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Restoration for family photo?

If anyone could improve this photo I would be v grateful. I'm hoping to copy it for a relative but it's a little shabby.

Thanks :)

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Occupation on 1841 Census
« on: Saturday 05 March 11 13:24 GMT (UK)  »
Does anyone know what the occupation for Edward Cavill is? It seems more like an abbreviation?

Thank you!

(As a side note, how possible do we think it for a 50 year old woman to have a 4 year old in 1841?)

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Can someone date these photos please?
« on: Tuesday 21 December 10 22:55 GMT (UK)  »
A couple of family photos (we think). We're not absolutely sure who these photos are of so if anyone could give a rough date it would be very helpful! Unfortunately the first is in a terrible condition but hopefully somebody will be able to work it out! The back of the second is a post card. Thank you for any help! :)

Hopefully someone will be able to add some colour to this photo of my grandmother as a bridesmaid. She says the bridesmaid dresses were lemon and their shoes were silver but doesn't remember anything else so feel free to do whatever you think best. And could I be terribly rude and ask for no frames around the result as I would like to get it framed for her? Thank you so much for any help! :)

Alternatively if you just want to colour the girl on the far right I would appreciate that too!

Lincolnshire / The 'Globe Works', Lincoln
« on: Friday 23 July 10 21:45 BST (UK)  »
I have recently visited the grave of a family member whose headstone says he died in an accident at the 'Globe Works' in Lincoln in 1903. I have had a look online but have found little info about the company and nothing about the accident. Is 'Robey & Co' (on Canwick Road) the correct company? Does anyone have any further knowledge about this?

Also, where would be the best place to search for information about the accident - the Lincoln archives or a library with old newspapers etc? (I live in the area)

Thank you! :)
