World War Two / Look up request for RAF records
« on: Tuesday 16 November 21 09:43 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all,

been a long time since I've been on here so not sure about requesting help

My grandfather Harry price served in the RAF during the WW2

Is there an "easy" way to find his service number?

Details are he was born in Rowley Regis but moved to Castleford as a child, DoB 27/1/1902

He was in Normanton (Castleford) in 1939 and 1945 according to voter records and married in 1943 in Pontefract?

Any help gratefully received

Many thanks

Nick

Lancashire / Frank Gurney Bootmaker Liverpool
« on: Wednesday 19 December 12 10:04 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Folks

trying to trace my wife grandad.

He was born 1880 in Ormskirk and died 1920 in west derby

I know he was in the forces during the boer war (signed up in 1897 at 18 (already a bootmaker))but after he left in 1909.

We have a photo of him outside quite a grand shop named F Gurney Modern boot repairs at 189a but can't see a street name

in 1911 he was at 159 Linacre Rd Litherland Liverpool

so the question is after all that waffle is there any directories from this era that would say where the shop was?

cheers

Nick

Armed Forces / Possible Boer war Ancestor Photo

Hi Folks

another picture of a relative, now we thought this was Frank Gurney circa 1901 during his time in the South Lancs regiment.

But his records seem to suggest he was never more than a private.

can anyone confirm this is a Boer war era uniform for that regiment

Many thanks

Cornwall / General question of parish records info
« on: Friday 31 August 12 06:48 BST (UK)  »
Hi

Just found some links to Cornwall on my wifes side and was wondering how far I can get with these.

Would a Marriage entry give fathers names and ages of couple?

Does birth entry give mothers maiden name or ages?

I am trying to find info on Thomas Hawke Thomas from Padstow (b 1819)

Parents james and ann hawke married 12/8/1813 in st Hilary (from cornwall OPC)

Many thanks and apologies if this has been answered elsewhere
