Tyrone / Monteith / Kane brick wall
« on: Tuesday 17 July 12 15:17 BST (UK)  »
Help - I've hit a brick wall.

Who were James Monteith (1846 - 1926) and his wife Martha Kane (1853 - 1893) descended from?

James was born in Lislaird, Tyrone. He possibly had a brother Robert and their parents were called Robert and Jane. However, I have nothing definitive so would prefer confirmation if this is correct + any other info available.

Martha (Matty) - I know she married James in 1872 @ Castlederg but don't have confirmation of where she was born / died. Her father was possibly called William (but guessing based on land records).

I believe they were protestants.

All clues gratefully received.

Could anybody confirm when Martha Monteith died please?

We understand she died in childbirth c.1892-1894.

We also have differing names as to who the child / chidren were that she died giving bith to - was it Andrew & Martha or Donald?

Martha lived with her husband James and about 10 other children in the Castlederg / Strabane area of Co, Tyrone.

Flintshire / 1861 Lookup - DAVIES
« on: Sunday 16 May 10 17:32 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I'm trying to trace the following family on the 1861 census.

I've got them for 1851 and 1871, just can't find them in 1861.

father = William Davies b 1819 St Mary, Halkyn, Holywell, Flintshire
Mother = Mary (Isaac) b 1811 St Mary, Halkyn, etc
Children = William b1845 & Edward b 1847

1851 - they're at Bagilt St, Holywell
1871 - Allan Sq, Bagillt St, Holywell

William = smelter on both censuses

I've even tried searching for the street but nothing - was it missed when they did the census?

Scotland / Martha Monteith / Mungall
« on: Sunday 16 May 10 12:05 BST (UK)  »
Help wanted please:

Martha MONTEITH (b. 1893) was born in Ireland, Co. Donegal.

She was still in Ireland in 1911 (have got a copy of the 1911 Irish census).

However, I'm trying to find out what happened to her after that.

We think she went to Scotland (date & location unknown) and married somebody called MUNGALL.

Can anybody help me with dates / names / locations please?

Thank you

Tyrone / Monteith Castlederg

Hi

Can anyone help please?

My husbands granddad was William MONTEITH - dob 11 feb 1875.

He was born in Ireland - possibly the Castlederg / Strabane area. Can anyone clarify this please?

His father = James MONTEITH (? 1846 dob but may be looking at wrong person).

We've been told that James's wife = Matty (Martha) KANE but research to date suggests Matty was married to somebody else.

We'd also like help confirming William's siblings. Info to date:
Annie dob 1/4/1880  who later emigrated to Canada
David (? b. 1885)
Jack (dob n/k)
Elizabeth / Lizzy dob 26/5/1889
twins - Martha & Andrew (? 1893)
Another brother - ? Robert / James / Edward

The family was Protestant.

All information gratefully appreciated!
