I am trying to solve the mystery of my g.g. grandfather Edgar Talbot, a ship's carpenter. He married a Hannah Lee in 1875 in London. His father was recorded as Joseph a builder. On the 1891 and 1881 censuses he is listed as being born in 1843 in Weymouth, Dorset. He was living in Bethnal Green as a shipwright.
When trying to search back further I can only find an Edgar Abraham Lee who was born in Weymouth around 1833. A marriage cert to a Sarah Jane Chick gives his occ as ship's carpenter and his father as Joseph a joiner. This Edgar can be traced back to the 1841 census and a christening record. I also have evidence of him being at sea in 1868.
At first I wondered if they were the same person and he remarried either after the death or divorce of Sarah but I can't find evidence to support this and then took 10 years off his age!! Also my Edgar's death cert gives his age as 54 in 1900.
Can anyone help to unravel this PLEASE!!!!
Thanks mdb
