Fife / Isabella Lindsay born Pottie
« on: Thursday 28 May 20 15:33 BST (UK)  »
In the 1851 Census, Isabella Lindsay is 64 and receiving Necewing(?) Parish Relief, in Pitlessie, Cults, Fife. She was born Isabella Pottie in Carnock on August 26 1785, had married Andrew Lindsay in Edinburgh on April 18 1814. She had 5 children with Andrew, and ends up back in Cults as a poor old lady. Her husband Andrew has disappeared from the scene. He was a Blacksmith. At least 3 of her children migrate to South Australia in 1865 and she makes the voyage with her son Andrew and his family. She died in 1866. I am keen to find any records pertaining to her experience in receiving Poor Relief and would love to find out what happened to Andrew.
Thanks in anticipation.

Antrim / Edward Derby
« on: Tuesday 19 May 20 06:24 BST (UK)  »
Edward Derby was my 4GG. He was born Nov 24 !788 and died June 8 1865. He lived in Falkirk, County Stirling and made a living as a Victualler, Corn Merchant and in 1861 he is a Sharper??. He was born in County Antrim according to the 1841 Census and on his death record, his father is Johnstone Darby and his mother Janet. I have been unable to find anything about his parents in Scottish records and am unfamiliar with Irish records. Johnstone seems like an uncommon name. Any help appreciated.

I have been given a newspaper article headed "Honoured By Queen Victoria" Famous Croydon Cornetist Dead. I  believe he may be the father of a Henry Jackson, born in Croydon in 1876. Young Henry came to South Australia before 1900.
The newspaper has no name or date. I am trying to get more information about Henry the musician and who his wife may have been.

Henry Jackson, known as Harry was born in Croydon, Surrey on July 23, 1876. He arrived in South Australia as an 18 year old, and after working on the wharves at Port Pirie, he was elected to Parliament and in 1911, he becomes the youngest ever Speaker of the House of Assembly in South Australia. Can someone locate his parents for me? I have also seen his birth date as 1873.
Thankyou

Stirlingshire / Andrew Lindsay Peter Gardner Millwright and Engineers, Stirling
« on: Sunday 31 March 13 07:43 BST (UK)  »
I have found reference to a notice of impending bankruptcy proceedings against the business of Peter Gardner and Andrew Lindsay, millwrights and engineers of Stirling.  This notice was published in The London Gazette of October 8, 1861.
I am keen to know more about this business, where it was, and what the outcome of this action may have been. I believe that Andrew came to Australia in 1865 and started a foundry "The Carron Ironworks"
Thankyou
