Should we include babies who are stillborn in our Family Tree?
15 years ago my niece's baby died 'in utero' two weeks before the due date and this baby is named and included in the Family Tree.

The Lighter Side / 'Put away?'
« on: Saturday 30 March 24 21:05 GMT (UK)  »
In the 1980's I had close links with a large hospital for patients (app. 100) who had a severe disability - both mental and physical. These patients came from all over England.
In the five years I was there I can recall only about four patients having occasional visits from relatives.
I wonder how many were 'put away' and abandoned by their relatives - how many had relatives that didn't even know they existed.

« on: Friday 23 February 24 14:49 GMT (UK)  »
Florence Firth b.1879 in Barnsley Yorks married Albert H Westwood in S1/4 1919 in Barnsley and they went to New Zealand.
In 1920/21 in New Zealand their son William Firth Westwood (known as Peter) was born.

Florence Westwood died in Newton Abbott Devon in 1959.  Living with her was her son William Firth Westwood and his wife? Irene Florence Westwood.

Looking for the record of the marriage of William and Irene (William had returned to the U K with his mother in the late 1920's)
Don't believe thay had any children.
Also looking for the dates of death of William and Irene Westwood and their place of burial.
Thanks.

« on: Friday 06 October 23 21:48 BST (UK)  »
was born in Yorkshire England 3 May 1898.  The last sighting I have of him in England is in 1925.

There was a Clifford Oliver who went to Canada in 1929 - Montreal - Quebec.

Is there any way of finding out if this is the one I'm after - possibly a Canadian Death Certificate?

Thanks.

Family History Beginners Board / Dilemma
« on: Friday 06 October 23 18:57 BST (UK)  »
Knowing my interest if family history my neighbour asked me if I could help trace his friend's birth mother - the friend had been adopted.
Took a while and a bit of luck and I think I have identified her - she is now deceased I have not contacted her family.
Sadly the friend died suddenly.
It seems the friend was desperate to find details of his birth mother as he wanted to share the information with his family.
My dilemma is should I pass on the information I have to the friends children - two sisters in their early fifties?
Thanks

Family History Beginners Board / Undertakers
« on: Wednesday 30 August 23 17:36 BST (UK)  »
Spent a long time searching for the Burial of a great-uncle who died in 1957 (in Ontario) - no luck form enquiries to various cemeteries.
I Googled and got a list of all the Undertakers in the town where he lived.

Chose one at random and it came up trumps - they gave me the address where great-uncle and his wife died - the cause of death - their dates of birth - dates of death - place of burial.
The Undertakers also had the names of the parents of the deceased which confirmed they were the right ones.
(only direct descendants of the deceased can get a copy of the full Death Certificate n Canada - others only get a certificate with name - date of death - marital status. (cause of death not given.)

The Lighter Side / Adoption

Initially a baby who is adopted is registered with names of birth parents.

If adopted is the baby registered again with the names of the parents who adopted him/her ?

If not are the adoptive parents given or do they have access to the original Birth Certificate?

In J1855 Susan Da(o)rrington married William Harrison in Wisbech Cambs.

On the 1861 census living at Walpole St Peters

Susan Harrison 27 b Whittlesey Cambs
Mary Harrison dau 5 b.Walpole St Peters
Elizabeth dau 3                 ''
Joseph son 1                    ''

My question -  Where was JOHN THOMAS DA(0)RRINGTON in the census of 1861 ?And where was he in 1871 1nd 1881 ?

I have the Harrison family in 1871 in Walpole St Peter - no sign of John Thomas Da(o)rrignton.

A John Thomas Darrington died S1861 (after 1861 census) in St Ives 3b 160 - don't know if this is the one born in Tydd St Giles in 1852.

Thanks.

Canada Lookup Request / Cost of Death Certificate
« on: Wednesday 31 May 23 08:49 BST (UK)  »
Have just received a copy of a basic Death Certificate which gives date of death - marital status - place of death of relative who died in St Catharine.  (I am UK based.)
Enquired about getting a full Certificate giving cause of Death and full address and been quoted a charge of $5270.
Surely that can't be right ??
