Dumfriesshire / John Richardson living in Dubside of Heck
« on: Wednesday 08 July 15 17:30 BST (UK)  »
Hello,
Looking for information on John Richardson living in Dubside of Heck. Was also called Outby John or Officer's John. He died prior to 1769. He married Elizabeth Wright who was born around 1706 and died 10 Jan 1794. They are both buried in Lochmaben Old churchyard. I was fortunate to be able to visit there early this year but the stone is unreadable now.
They had a daughter Agnes born 11 Jun 1737 who married William Thorburn of Kelton. She died 23 Aug 1827.
If anyone is researching this family would love to hear from them. Would like to learn more about John and Elizabeth.

Thank you

Elaine

Europe / Wilhelm thorn
« on: Thursday 12 March 15 17:40 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,

Looking for info on Wilhem Thorn and his family
Born 22 May 1780 Neuwied near Koblenz Germany.
Parents: Johann Philipp Thorn---master tailor and Anna Catherina Singmeister of Heddensdorf.
I understand she was Johann's second wife. Wilhelm came to England to do his military education and then joined  the 29th light dragoons. He changed his name to William.
He was the youngest of 5 boys and 1 girl. I am very interested in particular of who his sister was as I believe she married my 4th great grandfather John Francis Smet.
William had an extensive military career and wrote 2 books. He died in 1843 at Neuwied and is said to be buried there.
Any info about this family greatly appreciated.

Somerset / Henry Austin family in Somerset
« on: Monday 20 August 12 02:14 BST (UK)  »
Looking for the Henry Austin family in Somerset. I know for sure there is at least one child --Mary Matilda Austin born St. Swithin Walcot baptism June 1813, although I think there are at least two more. This shows her parents as Henry and Elizabeth. Mary Matilda married James Henry Wilson in London and she also died there. I have also found her mother Elizabeth living with after she was widowed. Her birthplace is shown as Bristol probably around 1784. I have also found a marriage between a Henry Austin and Elizabeth Cave in Somerset in 1812 so that may be her maiden name. If anyone is researching this family would love to hear from you.
Thank you

Australia / WOOLF family in Queensland
« on: Sunday 05 September 10 03:33 BST (UK)  »
Looking for info on the Woolf family. Thomas James Woolf was born in March 1869 Baumber Lincolnshire. His parents were David Woolf and Rebecca Proctor.
In July 1887 He sailed for Australia on the Dacca, landing at Brisbane Queensland. We have also found him on voter’s lists for Herbert and Mackay. In 1911/12 his sister Mary came out and joined him. Have found her with last name of Brownsey and her death in August 22 1960 Queensland. When she came out she brought her son. However can not find any record of her as to exact arrival as am not sure what name she was. She was in the 1901 census in Cheshire England as Mary Woolf, but can not locate a marriage at all. She had both a son and a daughter –and left the daughter with her parents in England so am not sure if she had two marriages.
Thomas James died in June 30 1955 Queensland.
Have also tried to locate Queensland census records but it seems they have been destroyed.
Any help or advice as to how to locate Mary greatly appreciated.

Staffordshire / Tooth family Stoke on Trent
« on: Sunday 04 July 10 17:20 BST (UK)  »
I am helping a friend look for info on Tooth family , all from  around the Stoke on Trent area.  My friend's mother was Maud born 1911. She married first Clifford Roberts, and then Frederick Charles Christmas in 1940. Maud came from a family of 13---names including Elsie, Alcie, Mary Patricia, Harriet. Seamus, Anne. Crystal. Thomas William, Abraham, John , James, Ada. All the men were said to have worked in the Hanley Deep Pit,and Maud worked in the Potteries. Probably her sisters did too. I have not yet found the family on census--still looking. I have also been going through the freebmd  website and have not located all of them--not sure if I have the right ones sometimes. One thing I found was Maud's birth with a mother's maiden name of Boughey. And that was the only birth I found with that name. My friend  thought her grandfathers name was Joseph but not positive on that. I think it may not be as none of the children have the name---if they followed traditional naming patterns. any help appreciated.
thank you

« on: Wednesday 12 March 08 23:53 GMT (UK)  »
Lokking for where to find out about judges in England. I have a ggggggrandfather who was one. Not much info is known about him. The name is Hamilton Smith, but would have originally have been Smet. He was from Belgium. He had two sons, both born in Belgium but came to England. John Francis Smet an military surgeon and Charles Hamilton Smith ---who changed his name from Smet to Smith. Have no idea when the judge died--could have been the late 1700,s or around turn of century then. Any help greatly apreciated.
