Australia / George Marquis Cumming and Margaret McHenry
« on: Wednesday 29 October 14 05:40 GMT (UK)  »
This is just a note for anybody researching this family who migrated to Australia.  I have a copy of George and Margaret's Marriage Certificate for 1841 which shows that George is a widower at the time of his marriage to Margaret McHenry.  This proves that the two children George Cumming and William Kirk Cumming are not Margaret's Children but George's first wife.

Australia / Joseph Christopher Columbus
« on: Wednesday 22 October 14 05:42 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I have been searching for this man for a very very very long time.  His name is Joseph Christopher Columbus AKA Guiseppe Christophano Colombus.  I have his marriage and death certificate and all the information about his children in Queensland.
He married Kate Beard in Queensland 23 December 1882 - he was aged 24 years at the time
He died 28 July 1914 Brisbane aged 56 years.  The record states that he was born in Rome, Italy and that his father's name was Joseph Christopher Columbus.
I can find no record of him arriving in Australia and have searched every website that I can think of including Ancestry and findmypast, passenger lists, newspapers etc.
Can anyone suggest where else I can look to find this man.  All suggestions are very welcome.  Thank you Lesley.

Cambridgeshire Completed Lookups / Robert Yallup, Wisbech Cambridgeshire
« on: Tuesday 18 September 12 14:59 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I have been trying to find Robert Yallup without success,  he was probably born about 1840 in Wisbech Cambridgeshire.  I have found his wife [Emma, born 1840] and his son [Edward Joseph born 1860] in the 1861 Census.  They are staying with Emma's parents.  Emma is recorded as being a soldier's wife.
I have not been able to find any record of Robert's birth/baptism or death in the records and Emma and Edward Joseph Yallup seem to disappear from the records after the 1861 Census.
I have found what is probably Emma and Robert's marriage on the freebdm website incorrectly recorded and Robert Yallup and Emma Mossen [it should be Massen] 1860 Wisbech, Cambridgeshire.
I have also found what is probably Edward Joseph's baptism 19th Aug 1860 [name spelt Yallop] in Norwich
Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you, Lesley

« on: Tuesday 22 June 10 05:30 BST (UK)  »
Hello, I hope that this is the correct place to ask for help.  I am having difficulties finding the parents of Joseph Massen born About 1811 Walsoken, Norfolk.  This is the information that I have:
1841 Census  ?Staff Street, Walsoken, Norfolk
Joseph MASON age 30 occupation boot closer [Note name is misspelt]
1851 Census Cooks Hill Walsoken
Joseph MASSEN age 42 Occupation Boot Closer born Bourne, Lincolnshire
1861 Census Cooks Hill Walsoken
Joseph MASSEN age 53 Occupation Boot Closer born Kings Lynn, Norfolk
1871 Census Whitby Street, Wisbech, St. Peter
Joseph MASSEN age 64 Occupation Shoe Maker born Lynn Norfolk
The only baptism that I have found for Joseph Massen is 26 Mar 1805 St. Nicholas, Kings Lynn, Father Richard Massen, Mother Melchia. Then this marriage Richard Massen married Milcah Taylor 22 Aug 1821 St. Martin, Birmingham, Warwick.  Apart from the dates of Marriage and Baptism being way off, I still do not think that this is my Joseph Massen.  Can anyone help
me .  Thank you.
