Unwanted Certificates & Artefacts / Holiday Slides 1949-1975
« on: Thursday 28 January 21 21:53 GMT (UK)  »
My friend has passed onto me a box of about 500 slides that her son picked up at a car boot sale in Chester about 10 years ago. Most are meticulously labelled with date and place and range from Scotland 1949 to Scotland 1975 but include holidays in many different places in between.
Tissington in 1969
Norway Skiing in 1970
Cruise including Venice Corfu Greece and Jerusalem in 1970
Austria in 1973
As well as San Francisco, Rome, Hawaii Honolulu without dates
There are also some weddings, birthdays, christenings and christmas’
They are beautiful slides some with family groups on them my problem is that there is nothing to say exactly where the family is from except the early slides seem to be Wales a lot and Chester Zoo (and they were bought at a car boot in Chester)
There are a couple of names such as Helen and Jacks wedding and what appears to be birthday of their daughter Claire 1960 but no surname. Or Diane Hulmes wedding to Eric 10 Dec 1966 (I can only find one Diane Hulmes marrying an Eric Lucas)

I will be going through them again when I have a couple of days off looking for other clues but would love to pass the slides on to the relevant descendants eventually

Armed Forces / Trying to reunite a medal with family
« on: Monday 17 June 19 00:16 BST (UK)  »
I have been having a clearout and found a medal that I think I picked up at a car boot sale or somewhere about 20 years ago that I meant to research but most stuff wasn’t online then

Anyway it’s a WW2 Medal with Palestine 1945-1948 bar on it it has the name H Dearden and the number T 14472826 round the edge and I have found the medal card entry on ancestry but not sure where to go from here as it simply says H Dearden on the card entry.

Now I have found an entry in forces war records but I don’t have access to that without paying
It says H Dearden same number driver opinion Royal Army Service Corps in 1950
Does anyone have access that could check him out.

I have found a relative on Aphrodite in 1889
I am interested in line 5 Elias Saunde I can’t quite make out the name of his previous ship from Liverpool which is written on line 4 and is possibly the same as line 1

I am trying to track his voyages but am stuck as all possible guesses so far have not come up with a ship to match.

I do have a bigger picture with more writing to compare to but I think it might be too big to post

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

World War One / Medal bar what are they
« on: Sunday 12 May 19 02:19 BST (UK)  »
During my sort through of all my family history stuff I found this yesterday. Belongs to my Grandad WH Soundie (his picture has just been restored on the photo restoration forum and he is wearing the bar.) This bar  seems to have more on it than the one in the picture presumably because the 2 actual medals he is wearing have been added to the bar.
I think have worked out that left to right
British medal
1914 Star
? Is it Imperial service medal
Military medal
Victory medal ribbon is just attached to the pin so not on the bar
However they appear to be different colours than I can find online or is that just dirt and age

I have this photo? Of my grandad (born 1890) in his army best uniform My mum always said it was a painting done in France but am sure it is a photo despite the sacking type material it is attached to.
He has red hair and blue eyes.
My son and I have spent ages following the tutorial listed above so I hope this works. One picture is without any editing I think and the other has had colour improved and backlight

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / can any one date this please
« on: Sunday 09 December 12 15:44 GMT (UK)  »
This was found in an old wooden chest when clearing mums things after she died. Chest was in shed and very water damaged so stuff inside not in best condition. It is on card and has no writing on the back. It has been trimmed into an oval and placed in an oval wooden frame which fell apart when we got it out. There was a matching oval frame which had a picture  of my nan on her wedding day in 1929. So this suggests to me that it is close  family. Am trying to work out a date for it if anyone  can help

United States of America / Passenger list look up please
« on: Wednesday 19 October 11 02:23 BST (UK)  »
Am looking for a family who left Wales UK and ended up in Williamsport Lycoming Pennsylvania in 1870 and later in Cuyahago Ohio

I possibly have them in Wales in 1861
John Pryor head 31 Millwright born Cornwall England
Harriet Pryor wife 31 born Somerset England
Sarah daur 9 born Glamorgan Wales
John son 2 born Glamorgan Wales
Margaret daur 10mnths born Glamorgan Wales

then USA 1870  just emigrated based on dates in later censuses

John Prior 39 no job recorded
Harriet Prior 37
Stella Prior 17 (?? Sarah)
John Prior 14
Mary 6
Maria J 2
states all born Wales
the ages of the kids confuse me but as I can't see actual image I will hope there are errors. Although some might have died in interval between censuses and they had others

I wonder if anyone can find them on a ship to America around 1869/1870 and Pryor has been spelt various ways Prior/Prier

Thanks
Donna
