Leicestershire Lookup Requests / Eliza(beth) Findley, Leicestershire?
« on: Friday 01 June 12 19:26 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone please help me find Eliza Findley's family?   Eliza married Henry Wilkins at Appleby on 05 February 1861.   On the certificate, Eliza's father is stated as "John Findley, labourer".

I have all the information about Henry and Eliza but can't find out who Eliza's parents are or where they came from etc. etc.

Have found a John Findley on the 1841 Census Groby, Leics., married to a Mary and with children Joseph 7;  Elizabeth 5, and George 3 months.

Any help at all would be very much appreciated as I'm grasping at straws now!!

Kildare / William Holmes born circa 1851 Ireland
« on: Wednesday 31 August 11 16:18 BST (UK)  »
I would be grateful for any help in tracing the birth/baptism of William Holmes born circa 1851.   On 1861 Norwich, Norfolk Census return he was stated as being 10 years old born Ireland.
His father William (my great grandfather) married Catherine Brennan in 1847 in Athy, County Kildare.   Their first child, Teresa, was bap 27 May 1849 Rathkeale, County Limerick.   At that time, William senior was a soldier in the 3rd Buffs.  He was also in 44th Regt. of Foot and served  in the Crimean War in Sebastapol.   The first I can find of the family on the census returns is on the 1861.   By the 1871 census, William senior had died and his son William junior had "disappeared".  Could he have gone back to live in Ireland, possibly with his Brennan relatives?
Any help in tracing the birth/bap of William Holmes junior or any info about his father's stay in Ireland, will be greatly appreciated as I have hit this huge brick wall in my research.

« on: Wednesday 20 October 10 20:20 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone please help me find information about an ancestor of mine who was transported to Van Diemens Land in 1841.   He was sentenced to 7 years transportation for theft at Norwich, Norfolk, England.
He went out on HMS Isabella in April 1841.
His name was Edward HOLMES; born 1792 Norwich, Norfolk;  trade weaver;  he was a widower and left seven children in England.
I would be most grateful for any information or assistance to enable me to find my ancestor.   Did he stay in Tasmania;  did he re-marry and have another family;
the questions are endless.
