Monaghan / Barnwell born in Donagh
« on: Friday 07 September 12 21:25 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for information on SAMUEL BARNWELL who was born about 1781 in Donagh.  He joined the 18th Regiment of Foot in 1804 and served in Jamaica.  He was discharged in 1821 with a pension from Kilmainham and married CATHERINE MILLIGAN.  They had a number of children at unknown locations and the first indication of location was in 1841 with the birth of a daughter in Kilmore, Monaghan - probably at Drumaclan.  He was dead before 1856 when one of his sons married in Scotland.  One of his other sons was at Drumaclan for the Griffiths valuation and at least one grandchild (by a daughter) was also born there.

There was also a JAMES BARNWELL born about 1780 in Donagh who joined the army (22nd Foot) in 1799 and was also discharged in 1821.  He received a pension from Chelsea.  Nothing more is known.

Also a WILLIAM BARNWELL born about 1793 at Donagh.  He was convicted of burglary in 1817, sentenced to hang but actually transported to Van Diemen's Land in 1818 where he died in 1826.

Samuel and James I suspect are brothers with the likelyhood that William also was.  I can find nothing that confirms birth or parentage of any of them.  Samuel's family were Catholics - the religion of other two is not known.

Can anyone help, connect or point me in any direction where I may find any other information.

Richard
