I am trying to locate the plot number, etc of the grave of Peter Ferguson who was my grandfather. He was serving in the Royal Navy when he died on 24 July 1921. His funeral took place on 28 July 1921 and he is buried in St. Andrews Cemetery, Jesmond. His grave has a headstone which includes details of other family members. I saw the grave about ten years ago when visiting the area ( I don't live locally) and now another family member has asked me about the grave.Does the cemetery have a superintendent's office/cemetery office from where I might obtain details of the plot and grave number?

Yorkshire (North Riding) / John and Betty Morland of Dent. Where are they buried?
« on: Wednesday 19 February 20 17:01 GMT (UK)  »
John Morland- farmer, innkeeper and also apparently lessee of a coal pit died in 1842 in Dent. I believe his wife Betty died later ( 1853?). Does anyone else researching the family know where they are buried? St. John's Church, Dent? St. John the Evangelist, Cowgill? Are there any churchyard memorials or headstones to either of them?

My brother ( older than me) was born and died at Broadgreen Emergency Hospital, Liverpool in July 1946. This is something my mother told me about when I was a child. The hospital was later developed into the present Broadgreen Hospital. I have a copy of his death certificate; he lived for 15 minutes and the cause of death was Asphyxia Neonatorum. My question is not to do with the cause of death but what happened to such infants afterwards? I'm fairly sure there wouldn't have been any kind of funeral. Were they just taken away by the hospital staff in the hope that the mothers would "move on with their lives" and look to the future when they might have subsequent children? Were they just incinerated or actually buried in a communal grave somewhere? In the grounds of the hospital possibly?

Shropshire / Samuel and Mary Feeney ( nee Griffiths ) When did she die?
« on: Thursday 23 January 20 14:51 GMT (UK)  »
Samuel and Mary Feeney were married in Shrewsbury in November 1859. He was a bricklayer and was born in Shrewsbury in 1832/3. She was born in Wales in about 1837 and was a servant at the time of their marriage. At the time of the 1881 census they and their children were still living in Shrewsbury. A record for Atcham in 1911 appears to show his death at the age of 78. However I can find no Atcham death record for Mary between 1881 and 1930! Maybe I haven't looked hard enough or it could be that she outlived her husband and moved away from the area. All suggestions gratefully received!

Cheshire / Erskine Road, Seacombe-not in 1900 street directory?
« on: Monday 18 September 17 10:58 BST (UK)  »
An ancestor's birth in 1900 is recorded as having been at 14 Erskine Road, Poulton cum Seacombe. Although Erskine Road still exists today and is off Poulton Road it doesn't appear to show up as a separate street in 1900, 1901. although Poulton Road does and other local streets. Does anyone know if houses in Erskine Road were new in 1900 and therefore not yet showing in the street directory?

Cheshire Lookup Requests / 1901 Census Look up-Richard Henderson Hill
« on: Friday 08 September 17 17:12 BST (UK)  »
Hi, would anybody be able to look up the whereabouts /address of Richard Henderson Hill at the time of the 1901 Census? He was born in 1900 and his birth is registered in Birkenhead. At the time of the 1901 census he had two siblings ( Alice Hill born in 1890 and Charles Victor Hill born in 1898 ) Their father was Richard Hill who was a mariner and their mother was Annie Hill. So far I've been unable to locate them. Part of the problem may be that their father may have been out of the country at the time of the census ( I do know that he sailed the Transatlantic route to the States ).

Many thanks,

Lancashire / 58 Kensington, Liverpool- Was there ever a shop/sweetshop there?
« on: Thursday 07 September 17 11:52 BST (UK)  »
I have recently been told by an elderly relation of mine that a great-uncle of mine once ran a shop at 58 Kensington in Liverpool ( near to the junction of Kensington and Low Hill ). This was probably in the 1940s or 1950s. Although 58 Kensington appears to have more recently been a homes letting agency is there anybody who spent his/her childhood in or near Kensington during the 1940s or 1950s who may remember a shop once being there?

Dorset / Edwin Mitchener-Was he born in Dorset?
« on: Friday 09 September 16 15:49 BST (UK)  »
Edwin George Henry Mitchener served in the Royal Corps of Signals in WW2. In 1944, whilst based in Newmarket he married Ethel Dinsdale. His age is given on the marriage certificate as 29 and hers as 34, although I know she was really 44!I know she was born in Dec.1899.However I'm having difficulty tracing his birth. Although stationed in Newmarket the certificate states that his home address was Coldharbour in Sherborne, Dorset. His father was also called Edwin George and is described as a "Groundsman". I know that there were Mitcheners also born in Hampshire. Can anyone spot something that I may have missed?

Shropshire / Samuel Feeney and William Feeney. Dates of Birth ?
« on: Saturday 30 May 15 16:02 BST (UK)  »
Samuel Feeney married Mary Griffiths in 1859 in Shrewsbury. His father is shown on the marriage certificate as a William Feeney ( labourer ).As was the pattern Samuel's age is given as " full age". I believe that he may have been born in about 1832/33 which would have made him 26/27, but am not sure. William may have been born in about 1791 and married ( possibly to an Ann Evans ) in about 1824 , but am not sure of that either. Does anybody have any more concrete information?
