London and Middlesex / Herbert Ernest Hardy 1911 census help please
« on: Saturday 13 April 24 19:01 BST (UK)  »
Hi all
I am looking for a Herbert Ernest Hardy in 1911. He was born in 1896 to Frederick James Hardy and Mary Sullivan. In 1901 they were living in Christchurch Greenwich and Herbert Ernest Hardy was 4. He was with both his parents and 4 siblings, Frederick 13, Hilda 11, Agnes 7 and Arthur age 1. Another son Bernard Robert Hardy was born in 1902. His father Frederick Hardy died in 1903 in Greenwich. I cannot find any trace of Mary or the children in 1911. I have found Herbert Hardy in 1904 in the the Woolwich workhouse aged 8, he is with his sister Agnes and brother Arthur, no sign of mum anywhere. The only other mention of their mum Mary Hardy is on a Passenger and crew list for her son Bernard in 1921 living at 84 Raglan Road, London so she must have been somewhere in 1911 with her children. Another pair of eyes is very much appreciated in finding this family. Thankyou in advance xx

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Joseph East birth registration help please
« on: Tuesday 02 April 24 18:34 BST (UK)  »
Hi all, I have a Joseph East born, according to his war records, on 13 March 1896 in Sheffield, but i cant find any birth registration for him anywhere.
His mother was called Caroline East born in Sheffield in 1878, Caroline married in 1899 to Joseph North in Lincoln.
Joseph would have been born illigitimatley to Caroline East.
Joseph East was 3 on the 1901 census (which actually puts his birth as 1898) and living with his mother Caroline and her husband Joseph North plus another North child aged 10 months. On the 1911 census Joseph East has become Joseph North aged 13  and living on Wragby Rd in Bardney with his mother and stepfather. I haven't found him in 1921 yet so unsure to whether he is using the surname North or East at the time.
He married a Kathleen Harrison in 1934 in Lincoln under the name East.
Joseph and Kathleen are not together in 1939.
Please could another pair of eyes see if they can find a birth registration for Joseph East and would he have had to be registered at that time.
Thanks in advance x

Hi all, i am really hoping someone will be able to help me. I am helping a friends mum try and locate a brother she had who was born in 1931 in Middlesex England and possibly taken to Wales as a small boy and adopted. I have found an electoral role on FindMyPast with the correct name and it gives his address as Blaenau Ffestiniog Gwynedd Wales. (I do have the full address but not able to put on here) the electoral roll states that he has lived at that address for the last 21 years up untill 2020 at least. Does any one know how i can maybe find out if he still lives there or if he is still around, i have thought about writing to him but as he would be in his late 80s i dont want to think the letter isnt genuine. If it is the correct gentleman he still has family in England that would love to have contact with him if of course he wanted that. What is the best way forward please. Thankyou in advance xx

« on: Thursday 20 July 23 08:13 BST (UK)  »
Hi all
I am looking for the attached child and her parents in 1901/1911. I cannot find any record after the birth in 1894 of either the child or her parents Henry Tighe and Mary Ann Scott. The baby Winifred was my Great Grandmother. The birth was registered in Chorlton in Lancashire, but i cannot find a marriage for Henry or Mary Ann Scott around that time either. I have attached the birth certificate of Winifred so i hope that helps x
Winifred Tighe married in 1919 to John Burns in Manchester Lancashire.
Thankyou in advance

Warwickshire / William Lewis and the 2 Mary Anns?
« on: Wednesday 12 July 23 22:42 BST (UK)  »
Hi all, William Lewis is driving me mad so please can another pair of eyes have a second look please.

William Lewis was born abt 1853 in Pembrokeshire (according to the 1901 census). I have found him in 1901 living in Aston in Birmingham aged 48, he was a carpenter, Williams address in 1901 is 25 Parliament Street, Aston, he married Mary Ann Solomon in Cardiff Glamorganshire in 1898, he was 46 Mary was 20. In 1901 he is living in Aston Birmingham with Mary Ann, wife aged 22 born Cardiff, children Maude Lewis aged 14 b. 1887 Pembrokeshire, Ethel Lewis age 10, b. Cardiff, Olive Lewis, age 4 b. Cardiff, and Florence Lewis age 18 months, b.Warwickshire. (Florence Lewis was the above Mary Ann Solomons child with William). Now this is the confusing part, i cant find a birth registration for any of the older children on the census,
Maude Lewis 1887,
Ethel Lewis 1892
and Olive Lewis 1897, i have no idea who the childrens mother was.
I have the birth certificate of Florence Lewis born in 1899 and her mother is Mary Ann Solomon as above, the address on the childs birth certificate is 25 Parliament Street Aston, same as the 1901 census. William Lewis then had another child in 1902, called John Chamberlain Lewis, the address given on John Lewis birth certificate is 25 Parliament Street, Aston, but mothers name is given as Mary Ann Lewis formally Davis. ( I have the birth cert for John in 1902)
Mary Ann Lewis (Solomon) went on to marry again in 1907 to John Sullivan in Cardiff, i have no idea what happen to William Lewis, as like the above children, he just disappears,
William Lewis wife Mary (Solomon) was still alive in 1902 so im guessing they must have gone there seperate ways. Mary remarried again in 1907 to John Sullivan in Cardiff, and they are together in 1911, with the above Florence aged 10 (stated as guardian child) and two children she had with John Sullivan, John Sullivan died in 1917 and Mary Ann remarried for a 3rd time to a James Allsopp in Cardiff before dying in 1950. So my question is:
Who was William Lewis first wife and the mother to the older children on the 1901 census, especially Maude Lewis born 1887 who should be on the 1891 census somewhere,
Any census record prior to 1901 for William Lewis born abt 1853
What happened to William Lewis after 1901, and the 3 children he had on the census, and when did he die,
I do have access to FindMyPast  and Ancestry to check things out so any help you can give would be very much appreciated as dear old William is giving me a headache.
Thankyou in advance for any help, and i hope the above info makes sense xx

Lincolnshire / Looking for Edith Haigh in 1911 aged 6.
« on: Sunday 11 December 22 20:36 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all
Im looking for an Edith Haigh in 1911, she was born 11 February 1905 in Gainsborough (birth certificate info). She was the illigitimate child of Annie Haigh who was born in 1887 in Owston Ferry. Annie Haigh is with her husband  Herbert Haddon whom she married later in 1905 in Gainsborough, when Edith would have been just a few months old. Edith Haddon was born at 181 Lea Road in Gainsborough, which was at the time the Gainsborough work house.
I have Annie Haigh in the workhouse aged 13 on the 1901 census already, but i dont know what she did with her daughter Edith in 1911.
Annie and Herbert Haddon have another daughter called Irene Haddon aged 4 in 1911, but there is  no sign of Edith.
Please can you lovely lot see if you can find little Edith for me, she would have only been about 6 at the time.
Thankyou in advance

Yorkshire (West Riding) / McCarthy and Jaques marriage date?
« on: Tuesday 11 October 22 11:22 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for the above marriage please, but i cant seem to find anything.
According to the 1881 UK census John Mccarthy was born about 1849 in Ireland, he was living in Sheffield aged 28 with his 'wife' Sarah J Mccarthy born in Grantham Lincolnshire, aged 26 and their 2 children, John T Mccarthy aged 3 and Walter Mccarthy aged 1, also in the house is a border called Henry Parkin aged 26 and Sarahs mother, Rebecca Jaques , widow aged 64.
Im guessing from the oldest childs birth that John and Sarah would have been married around 1878 but i cant find anything. On the 1891 UK census, Sarah has changed her first name to Mary J Mccarthy aged 36. Sarah Mccarthy died in 1895 aged 41 in Sheffield, John died in 1908 Sheffield. Could you nice people see if you can find a marriage for me please, as im going around in circles and getting nowhere.
Thankyou in advance.

Durham / Looking for Charles Smith 1891 and before.
« on: Tuesday 19 April 22 08:17 BST (UK)  »
Hi all
Im trying to trace a Charles Smith but going around in circles so im hoping you lovely lot can have a look for me please.
Charles Smith married in 1892 in Sunderland, Durham to a Mary Le Bihan (as transcribed on Ancestry), i have Charles in 1901 as being born Germany, British Subject living in Sunderland with wife Mary and their two children Lillian aged 8 b.Sunderland and Ernest (Charles) aged 5 b.Sunderland. His wife Mary aged 29 was also born in Sunderland. On the 1911 census their address is given as Gas office, Fawcett Street, Sunderland and Charles is transcribed as born in Sheffield Yorkshire. I cannot find Charles in the 1891 census or the earlier ones. The 1921 census shows Mary as a widow and living with their daughter Lillian and husband.
Any help locating Charles is appreciated.
Thanks
Also Marys marriage is transcibed on FindMyPast as Mary Le Bimon, but she is added to the wrong husband. I cant find a marriage for a Charles Smith on FindMyPast.

Lancashire / Maud Scott-Masseuse 1917
« on: Monday 21 February 22 10:32 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all this is a tricky one so im hoping some kind person can work this out for me as its driving me nuts.
I have the birth certificate below of a Helmar Bergman Scott, born in 1917 (illigitimate) in Blackley Manchester.
His mother was Maud Scott and the father was a Oscar Bergman, who was Swedish. Oscar came over to England during WW1 and worked at the Army military hospital in Baschurch Shropshire. The hospital was started by Dame Agnes Hunt and it was the first of its kind to offer the 'Swedish Drill' which we know today as physiotherapy. Maud Scott was a masseuse at the same place. Maud gave the child to a couple called Sarah and John Barkley sometime between 1917 and 1921 as he is on the 1921 census aged 4 with them. The 1921 census also states that Helmars father is dead. What i am looking for is who was Maud Scott, (or even Oscar Bergman if im really lucky lol)  i know nothing about her at all, maybe if i can find Maude i can find some info about Oscar Bergman the father x
Thank you all in advance.
