Canada / Help to find Grt Uncle
« on: Tuesday 21 August 18 06:39 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
Samuel Orr was born in Scotland in 1859 and last appears in 1881 on the Scottish Census aged 21, a medical student in Edinburgh.  Family lore has it that he was not happy with his father's ambition that all his sons be doctors that he 'ran away to Canada and changed his name'.  His father was Samuel Kelly Orr and his mother Mary Ann nee Balfour.  Someone must know the end of his story! Maybe you can help me piece it together.  https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Orr-4926

Ireland / Margaret McGuinness
« on: Monday 19 June 17 00:09 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
Needing help to find Margaret's family in Ireland.  What we think we know: Margaret was born abt. 1860 to parents (from her marriage cert.) Patrick McGuinness and Margaret McCleverty.  She emigrated to Australia and married in Brisbane, Queensland 11th Jan, 1883.  We know her Australian life very well, but apparently she was always reticent about her past and thus not much is known before her migration here.  She was Roman Catholic. Thanks in advance,
Sarah Ward.

Australia / Vivienne Olwyn Ward/Bligh/Birch
« on: Thursday 29 August 13 07:30 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
Can someone please fill in some gaps for me?  Vivienne Olwyn was born BLIGH to Martin Bligh (d. 15/10/1956) and Sophie (Sophia) Mummim (Mummin or Mummims/Mummins).  Martin and Sophie/a were married on 10/9/1913.  Vivienne married Ian MACDONALD then John WARD and was married to George BIRCH when she died on 10/6/1974.  Can anyone tell me any details about Vivienne's birth (when, where etc.), siblings etc.
Thanks!

Kilkenny / FANNING

Hi all,
I have records on the family tree of Edward Fanning (Paulstown - perhaps not correctly spelt - Kilkenny) who emigrated to Australia in the 1850's.  He came to join his 'girlfriend' Bridget White who had emigrated from the same place a couple of month earlier (she paid the immigration bond).  Edward's parents were Michael Fanning and Catherine m/s Murray and Bridget's father, Richard.  Can anyone tell me any more about these people.
Many thanks,

Donegal / McGUINESS Margaret
« on: Tuesday 04 October 11 04:21 BST (UK)  »
Would be very grateful if someone could give me some information on the following:
Margaret McGuiness born abt. 1861 apparently came to Australia on "someone else's ticket".  She married in Australia and gave her birthplace as Kathmelton, Donegal, Ireland and her parents as Patrick McGuiness and Margaret McCleverty.  Perhaps someone out there can shed some light on this.  As always the RootsChat community are just wonderful.

Ireland / Master Joiners
« on: Tuesday 13 September 11 06:19 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I was wondering if there is a record somewhere of Master Tradesmen.  One of my ancestors Francis Gormley (or surname variants) was a Master Joiner in Ireland - is there any way of tracking this down? (He was also a Roman Catholic - if this helps)

Ireland / GORMLEY /WARD
« on: Wednesday 31 August 11 01:10 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I am researching Ann GORMLEY who appears in Glasgow, Scotland pre Dec 1872 (When and where she married Francis WARD)  She gives her place of birth (about 1840) as Ireland (unfortunately no County) and her parents as Francis GORMLEY (Master Joiner) and Ann GORMLEY m/s DONNELLY (deceased in 1872).  Francis WARD also gives his place of birth as Ireland (parents: Thomas WARD, farmer and Mary m/s DUNDAS - neither marked as deceased in 1872) but as I say they were married in Scotland in a Roman Catholic Church.  Can anyone help me with any more information about either of these people.
Thanks!

Lanarkshire / Patrick Devlin born Hamilton, 22.2.1877
« on: Tuesday 30 August 11 06:16 BST (UK)  »
The last report of Patrick Devlin was January 1892 (aged 15) where he was reported to be working as a drawer at Eddlewood Pit and was residing with a Mr John Smith, miner, Meikle Earnock.  Can anyone tell me where he went or what he did?

Lanarkshire / Francis WARD family in Glasgow 1872-1901
« on: Thursday 25 August 11 23:31 BST (UK)  »
Does anyone know any more about this family - where did Thomas II go and did Francis continue living in Scotland?
It appears that Francis Ward snr (F=Thomas Ward, farmer M=Mary Ward m/s Dundas) and his wife Ann Gormley (F=Francis Gormley, joiner M=Ann Gormley m/s Donnelly) were married in Hutchesontown Glasgow 21/12/1872.  They then had Thomas 19.2.1873 (Scots People) and Francis 5.11.1874 (Scots People) and another Francis 28.10.1876 (Scots People) - presumably the first Francis died but no death is recorded. and Mary Ann 8.8.1879 (Scots People).  The 1881 Census lists Francis snr, Ann, Francis & Mary Ann so it appears that Thomas I was deceased at this date - again no death recorded.  They then had a second Thomas 11.2. 1883 (Scots People) and the 1891 census lists Francis snr, Ann, Francis and Thomas so it appears that Mary Ann was deceased at this date but again I have been unable to find a death recorded.    I believe that Francis appears on the 1901 census 644/11.  He also is the informant on his father's death 22.10.1898 (Ann predeceased Francis snr. dying 24.10.1893, although it appears she was at least 10 years his senior).
