London and Middlesex / Still birth records. ???
« on: Sunday 08 May 16 04:26 BST (UK)  »

FACT
I have been looking for years for a little girl known as Vickie (Vicky, Victoria?).
She was probably a still birth or born alive and died almost immediately there after.

Parents were Lillie (nee CONNAH) and Alfred Ernest MATHEW.

Lillie was born 31Jan1887 in Buxton, Derbyshire, and Baptised 27-2-1887.
Albert Ernest Born 31-July- 1879 at Mile End, baptized 4-Sept-1884 at St Pauls, Shadwell, Tower Hamlets.

Lillie CONNAH Married Alfred Ernest MATHEW at Mile End 1905/Q4 ref 1C706a

SPECULATION
Lillie married Mathew (a travelling musician) as the result of a pregnancy. Is this the elusive Vickie?

FACT
Vickie would have been born in the period about 1905/Q1 to 1906/Q4 or possibly as late as 1909/Q1 when Lillie's second daughter (Ruth Janette) was conceived though this later period is unlikely.

During this time this couple were living at Lillie's mother's house at 11Jupps Rd. Mile End.

There is no record of the birth or death of Vickie MATHEW (or CONNAH) in the BDM registers.

To confuse matters Lillie continued to live at Jupps Rd (as a bigamously married couple) with William Henry FLEMING from about 1909 so Vickie could have been under the surname Fleming, though this is very unlikely. (See 1911 census below for this address)

I have attempted to search the "Burial records" on several occasions but have all ways got "no records" or adverts for books.

I am un-familiar with these burial records so I am probably doing something wrong.
Any assistance or information with this issue will be very much appreciated.

London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / still born babies
« on: Sunday 07 February 16 01:38 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Team,
If a child was still born in the 1900 - 1905 period would it have been recorded in the BDM registers or somewhere else or recorded at all ?
Cheers.

ps What if it were still born out of wedlock

pps what if it was alive for a "very short"  time and then died

The Common Room / What was my Mother ? Who am I ? what am I ?
« on: Wednesday 20 January 16 07:11 GMT (UK)  »
What was my Mother  ?    Who am I ?   what am I ?

A few surviving relations are still around so this post is couched in careful terms.

I am a 77 year old male.

My maternal grand mother born 1887 married in 1905 to Man no 1.
It is believed that this marriage was the result of a un wanted pregnancy.
The girl child died "very" young" and no records have been found.
She then conceived a daughter number 2 born 1909/Q4 by Man no 1.

However, they separated about 1907-8 when she returned to live at her mothers house with Man no 2, for this birth.

In the 1911 census they declared them selves as "married 4 years" presumably to cover for the daughter born in 1909/Q4 who they listed under Man no 2 surname.
This is not so as she was still married to Man no 1 and divorce was not available to "the working class" until about 1927.

She had another child by Man no 2 in 1911/Q1, (my mother).

She went on to marry Man no 2 in 1919/Q2 bigamously as Man no 1 was still living. He lived until 1943/Q3.
Searching the Divorce registers reveal no divorce was ever granted or issued.

All the above details have been verified by many family stories and the appropriate certificates and documents.

So, in genealogical / legal terms,  What was my Mother  ?    Who am I ?    What am I  ?

Do any of you have these little girls in your family history records ?
If you do can you tell me the maiden name of their mothers please.

I would like to have a more positive indication before I start ordering B/D certs.

Many thanks to all,
                                   Phil H.

Hi,  I have a relative that went missing during WW2.
Maiden name Ellen Mary KEEP born 1897 Q2 at St Georges, Hanover Sq.
Married Arthur CONNAH in 1922 Q1 same place.

I assume that she died as a result of enemy action.

Is there any way that I can find any record of her demise ?

Thank you.

London and Middlesex / May Victoria FLEMING Who is this little girl ?

May Victoria FLEMING Who is this little girl ?

May Victoria FLEMING
Born 28-May-1897:  Died 15-Aug-1898
Both at 46 Warmer Place, Bethnal Green, London.
Parents were Alfred FLEMING and Mary Ann (nee SMITH).

Alfred was born abt. 1855, his fathers name was Alfred living at 46 Warmer Plc. at time of marriage. Alfred Bn c1855 and his father were in the timber trade.

Mary Ann born about 1860, her fathers name was George Richard, mother name possibly Caroline all living at 1 Harts Lane at time of Alfred and Mary Ann's marriage. Geo. Richard was a builder.

May Victoria’s parents, Alfred and Mary Ann were married 23-Dec-1885 at the St. Jute parish church, Bethnal Green.

I have documented this family fairly well but over many, many years of searching I have never found any trace of May Victoria’s Paternal Grand parents or Gt. Grand parents or further back.
I have run out of ideas or clues as to how to complete this chapter of my family history.

Any help that anyone can give me will be very greatly appreciated.

Many, many thanks to you all in advance.

Could some kind person please help me find my Gt Grand Father and his family in 1891.
I have all (or most) of their details but am unable to find them in 1891.

1891 nothing found
1901 census lived at 50 Derbyshire St. Bethnal Green.
1911 census lived at 14 Hague St. Bethnal Green.

In 1891 the family would have looked like :-

I have been unable to find where this family lived in 1891 possibly due to a variation on the spelling of the surname.
All most certainly they lived in London somewhere.
Any help that anyone can give me on this topic will be greatfully received.
Many thanks,
                           Phil H.

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Where is this 1891 census place ?
« on: Saturday 31 August 13 22:32 BST (UK)  »
The 1891 census ( exact ) details that I have are ( note the ? mark ) :-

East? St
Civil Parish: Newington St Mary.
ED: 28 Piece: 361 Folio: 93 Page: 2

Trouble is there are 2 Newington’s both in Kent and 5 St Mary’s,  3 in Kent, 1 in Hampshire and 1 in the Orkneys.

Most probably one of the Kent ones is mine but I can’t rule out even the Orkney one as one of the people in this census was born in London of Scottish parents.

Can someone please de-code the census registration data above for me and pin point where this 1891 census was taken.

Again, your efforts are much appreciated.
Many thanks,
                      Phil H.

I am looking for William Fleming born Feb 1851 at St. Giles, London.
He married Jane Miller in May 1873 at Whitechaple, London.
Jane was born c1850.
William lived at 90 Brick Lane, Jane at 91 Brick Lane at the time of their marriage.

This family lived at 76 Cable St. Bethnal Green at the time of the 1881 census with their children.

They had their last child, William Henry Fleming born July 1883 at Bethnal Green.

I have found this couple in the 1871and 1881census and also with their son William Henry in the 1901and 1911 census.

The documentation is very un-clear but I think this family lived at 50 Derbyshire St. Bethnal Green, London at the time of the 1901 census.

I have been spectacularly un-sucessful in finding this family in the 1891 census when William Henry would have been 8 years old.

William Henry is my Grand Father.

Can any kind soul help me with this information please.

Phil H.
