For Sale / Wanted / Events / AGRA Network Event - 16th March, Leeds
« on: Tuesday 21 January 20 09:28 GMT (UK)  »
AGRA (The Association of Genealogists and Researchers in Archives) is holding a Professional Network Day in Leeds on Monday 16th March aimed primarily at anyone running a genealogy service in England/Wales who is not already a Member/Associate of AGRA. Speakers will give general advice on running a successful genealogy business, and the benefits of joining the Association. A speaker from the Board of Assessors will demystify the application process. This will be a great opportunity to meet and network with other delegates - lunch is included in the price.

This would also be useful for any researchers thinking of taking up genealogical research as a new business.

« on: Friday 04 November 16 10:26 GMT (UK)  »
I'm returning to my wife's family history after some time and an envelope has come to light giving an address in Kerry which probably dates to the late C19th - I'ms struggling to identify the location and hoping that someone with a little more knowledge of the area can help me to pinpoint it.

Yorkshire (North Riding) / Yorkshire Place Name - Ampleforth area?
« on: Sunday 28 February 16 13:59 GMT (UK)  »
I have a man (William Farndale) whose birth place changes in various censuses but is most likely to be in the Ampleforth area. On the 1871 census (whilst living in Settrington) his birthplace appears as shown on this image. Transcribed on Ancestry as Fegleg ?

Can someone with a knowledge of the area suggest what/where it may be ?

« on: Saturday 03 November 12 13:03 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone suggest what were the local newspapers most likely to cover Easton on the Hill in WW2. I am looking for information on air raids in the area in February 1941.

I will be visiting the British Newspaper Library at Colindale this week and wondered which titles would be the best to examine.

I have found a Boyds reference to a marriage between William LASHMAR and Eliz MOOR(E) which is listed in the Archdeaconary of Lewes Marriage licences - dated 1718.

If anyone has access to the Sussex marriage CD, I would be grateful to know in which parish the marriage took place ?
