The Common Room / Thank you RootsChat!
« on: Tuesday 19 July 11 12:52 BST (UK)  »
For any moderators or site owners reading this. I just want to thank you for your fantastic web site.

From a few posts on here I have discovered two distant relatives on my mothers side who are also actively looking into the family tree and we are sharing information and I have also recently made contact with I guess you would call her a cousin twice removed, and have gained a lot of knowledge for my own research.

On top of all of this the amount of help I have had from members and moderators when looking for census/records has been tremendous.

A big thank you and well done!

He has 2 brothers and 2 sisters:

Gertrude
Emily

I know a lot about these but nothing about Eynon. Any information would be gratefully received.

Glamorganshire / Jonathon Davies
« on: Thursday 02 December 10 16:34 GMT (UK)  »
I'm interested in finding more about my great grandfather Jonathon Davies, the only record I have of at the moment is on the 1911 census in Pontypridd listed as a coal miner (collier proprietor, own account) aged 24.

His place of birth is listed as Mountain Ash. I have tried looking for his birth on FreeBmd and Freereg but not found anything.

Question is how do you go about looking for someone with such a common name?

Glamorganshire Lookup Requests / Looking for Davies & Evans in Pontypridd
« on: Friday 20 August 10 20:00 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

This looks like an impossible task due to the common names but my Grandmother was Annie Rowena Davies born 1907 in Pontypridd. I have her birth certificate.

Her parents are listed as Jonathon Davies and Annie Evans. Any information on these two would be very useful, births, appearances on census etc.

The Common Room / Harsh Punishments in 1803!
« on: Thursday 19 August 10 14:40 BST (UK)  »
Stumbled upon a case in the old Bailey online purely on the basis that one of the accused has the name Pounceford - no idea if they are related to me.

But the story appears to be Pounceford aged 14 and his friend aged 18 are accused of pushing a 13 year boy to the ground and stealing his "bundle" (containing waistcoat, apron etc).

They denied it, the punishment for both is listed as "Death"!

These days they just get an ASBO.

Hi,

I am looking at writing up what I am finding about my family and will need to include an overall tree plus I was going to have family unit trees in different sections. I have been trying to make a nice looking diagram using Word art but its a total pain and cannot get it to look smart.

Does anyone have any suggestions on ways to do this?

Family History Beginners Board / Newbie looking for Ponsfords
« on: Thursday 12 August 10 10:46 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

I've been looking into my family history for about a week and have made great progress.

Going up the male line, the earliest record is 1841 census of John Ponsford aged 16 in Spaxton, he marries Ann Burgess in 1849, I think the only way to go back further there is to try to find their marriage certificate.

Would also like to trace my grand mothers family, this I find trickier online as she was born in 1907 in Pontypridd and I can't get census information for her as an adult. Her name was Annie Rowena Davies but I do not know her parents names.

Anyway I have a lot of information assimilating to do before I need to try a new approach.
